'Om' the supreme and most sacred syllable, consisting in Sanskrit of the three sounds (a), (u), and (m), representing various fundamental triads and believed to be the spoken essence of the universe. 'Unit' relating to Jim Coles the single entity, founder and label boss of Cosmic Bridge records.

Cosmic Bridge is the new label of Om Unit, the London based DJ & Producer and former DMC Champion 2Tall.

Striding into 2011, Cosmic Bridge declares it's debut with a killer release in the form of an Om Unit V's Kromestar collaboration.

Om Unit says of the label: "I took this collaboration as a green light to start my own imprint for side projects to my own stuff. The name speaks for itself, just have a listen"

The collaboration came about when Kromestar heard Om Unit being played on Rinse fm by DJ Jay 5ive, and asked Om Unit for a few beats before eventually exchanging dubs. What started out as a casual exchange of music has culminated into something far more profound, a joint 12" and digital release on Om Unit's newly formed, Cosmic Bridge.

With a string of notable releases to date, some of which include the 7" Lightgrids/Lavender (All City), The Timps (Civil Music) and The Corridor EP (Terrorhythm), the refix of Joker's Digidesign (Hyperdub) and Stateless' 'Assassins' (Ninja Tune), not to mention mixes for Shigeto, Pixelord, Take, Kidkanevil, and Naive Machine & whole more besides, it's clear to see Om Unit is hardly work shy. Eager ears could do worse than to watch Cosmic Bridge closely this year.

Moresounds' first release for the Cosmic Bridge label - which also doubles up as his first vinyl release - is a cocktail of old and new flavours processed, re-arranged and output through analogue gear to produce an auditory delight in the finest champion sound tradition. The obvious primary influences are from Jamaican legends such as King Tubby, Scientist and Jammy whose mastery of the dark arts of dub have had a long-lasting effect on the French producer. Additional influences come from a more personal angle, as early memories and experiences of free parties in his homeland play a strong part in helping Moresounds ground his music in a spirit of fun that is always inclusive.



The four tracks on the EP were run through a mixing desk and stack of outboard, analogue effects to give a serious bounce to the riddims and life to the melodies. The result is quite simply irresistible. Managing to sidestep any potential attempt at calling his dub work pastiche, Moresounds delivers the real deal across four cuts. Weeda is pure digidub, as infectious and potentially addictive as the subject matter of its refrain. Analog Steak is what happens when hip hop gets bitten by the same zombies Scientist was trying to rid the world of and turns mutant in the process. The only known cure is a hefty dose of analogue synthesizers, Dr. Moresounds is at the controls and the dancefloor is the operating table. Shtrakstep is what Moresounds refers to as du ' Lourd Raggadelic*' lourd means heavy in French, and well that riddim kind of weighs a ton. No Coke closes the EP on a raggastep vibe. Yes we realise that's two slightly ridiculous genre names in one paragraph but when the music includes such a delirious mix of ragga and bass what can you do. Breath Control bridges the analogue and digital worlds effortlessly. Inspired by electronic music, jungle, dub and hip hop it's a musical melting pot rendered all the more potent by its honesty and simplicity. As some of our favourite video games from the 80s were fond of reminding us, "Winners Don't Take Drugs" - but that doesn't mean we can't all go on a trip together.

*Raggadelism is defined as a mix of ragga and psychedelic. It's a humble journey into mystical dub, a mix of ancestral and modern bass flavours partly inspired by a vinyl shop called 'Bidule' which Moresounds' parents ran in the 70s.

EAN steps up to bat for Cosmic Bridge, bringing 4 tracks of heavyweight, eyes down 80/160-range BPM rollers blending footwork rhythms with deep soundscapes and tinges of Jungle and Techno. His past work has come in the form of remixes for Om Unit's Searching on Stretched records, Ghostpoet's Cash and Carry Me Home and his contribution to Project Mooncircle's recent 10 year anniversary box set entitled Pictarus. More recently Civil Music enlisted him for a blistering re-rub of XLII's No Cure which has been very well received.

Darknet E.P. features 4 original tracks, kicking off with Aulderkincher a tribal footwork-esque roller, which has already recieved much interest after being featured in Om Unit's XLR8R podcast in the last quarter of 2011. Next up, Jungle breaks collide with skittered 808s, hoover bass and vocal cuts from MC Random in the form of Burnt. The B side takes a deeper route as footwork tracks meet sci-fi with the opener Flow painting a more minimal picture, using reverb and spacial textures which continuously shift through the track, creating a feeling of anticipation throughout. A more dreamy melodic texture is brought out via the title track Darknet, which features vocals by Rachel Spell and Nicola Kearey. A digital extra comes in the form of Om Unit's syncopated halfstep re-rub of Flow to close. EAN can also be found behind the boards as mix engineer, and is responsible for the sonic success of Ghost Poet's Mercury-nominated Peanut Butter Blues And Melancholy Jam as well as the highly acclaimed psych rock album from Wolf People Steeple. He is also responsible for producing as part Various Production (circa 2005-2009) With full support for EAN coming from several key luminaries already, this is a hot-tipped debut E.P. release!
