Peter Gallagher, from Swinford, Co. Mayo, was introduced to traditional music in school and first took up the banjo before moving to guitar in his teens. Through his 20s he played rock, folk, and blues with local bands, but a chance visit to a session in Johnny McHale’s, Castlebar, reconnected him with his traditional roots.

Over the past two decades, Peter has performed across the northwest and more recently turned his focus to writing and producing. His first stripe as a producer came with The Streets of Boston Town, a collaboration with Charlie McGettigan. The track, recorded at Vibes Studio with engineer Leo Logan, featured Richard Neilson on pedal steel and Paul Gurney on guitar and piano. Peter wrote the music, Charlie penned the lyrics, and together they brought the song to life.

Now back in Swinford, Peter’s ambition is to create an album that captures his journey and defines his legacy as a musician from the west of Ireland.
