About the work:
It is a deconstruction of a family film depicting an act of violence whose cause remains unknown. It focuses on a scene where a boy is throwing a rock at a girl. The artist analyses the event from his early childhood and invites his family members to recall the event. 
The original recording was divided and transferred onto 29 slides, which are repeated every four minutes, thus emphasizing the scene of violence and extending its duration. The other important segment of the installation is audio recording, the testimonies of the eyewitnesses (family members), who are talking about the event that took place in 1977. The differences in their statements testify to the subjective nature of memories and observations, which becomes evident to the viewers themselves in the process of understanding the work. The work was presented in two separate rooms: in one, audio-recordings of the eyewitnesses’ testimonies were heard, and in the other, the picture of the act of violence was shown. In this way, the artist leaves room for each viewer individually to create their own parallel scenario of the event – which itself is disputable.

Agnes Hamvas´s narration  is based on 3 sources, found postcards, entries from a holiday photo album, as well as diary notes. The different texts come from 3 sound sources, which can be manipulated by the visitor. The various registers (read by Stefan Wieland, edited by Elias Berner) mark the moment in which they are recorded, which information is filtered or reproduced. The meaning of the moment, the experience, flows into the text.

Agnes Hamvas‘ Tonspuren laufen gleichzeitig und fügen sich zu einer  Soundcollage. Die Betrachterin / der Betrachter reguliert selbst, was hörbar wird.
Agnes Hamvas‘ Ausgangspunkt sind Dokumente des Alltags: Familienfotografien und Postkarten. Sie interessiert nicht das Bild der Front, sondern die Rückseite. Aus den kurzen Texten der Postkarten und Fotos bilden sich „Tonspuren“. Notizen werden übersetzt in Erzähltes, die Tonebene des Displays.  Es bleibt das flüchtige Medium der Erzählung.(read by Stefan Wieland, edited by Elias Berner)

INVENTUR / inventory

Text as medium is the starting point for Astrid Sodomka‘s „inventory“. Systematically all objects in her appartment are noted. Combined with observations and ambiguities the resulting lists make up stories that do without narratives. Used as subtitles as well as spoken words, passages and text fragments are collaged to audio and video works.

12-14 contemporary is an artist run platform for discursive and political projects of different genres in contemporary art. International well known artists and curators shape the program, contextualize and discuss the viewpoint of the art space, of art in generally, more over of society and last but not least the art market.
