It's always a pleasure to work together with close friends, I met Henry (the man behind Hal Incandenza) back in 2005 and besides the beautiful friendship between us,  his huge talent and the way that this guy felt music was always fascinating to me. Since the first moment I saw that he could do whatever he wanted to; write and produce any kind of style he would dare.

You could see him last year in MM Discos reworking Bonnie & Klein's Diamante and more recently signing this amazing Ep "Incivitas", a work that has been cooking for more than a year and that is called to be one of the bangers of the forthcoming festival season; but the story of Hal Incandenza in MM Discos is not finished yet, stay tuned cause more things are getting ready.

Natural born workaholic, Henry has been involved in projects as producer, songwriter, musician and graphic designer as well as hosting several radio shows throughout his long career. 

In this last episode of our monthly MM Cast, we've decided to rescue his last chapter of his own show "At Home with Henry Saiz" where the spanish producer gives a masterclass of downtempo and balearic beat. Make yourself confortable, roll a nice spliff and chill ;)

I made this mix right after Navid passed last year.  It helped me get through the initial shock and pain to listen to all his music and be reminded that he was so talented and his music so unique and diverse. It was amazing to go back though it all and think about the memories of hearing it for the first time and sharing it with him. But then it got really hard to hear his voice, it just hurt too much...

The last few months I've come back to playing his music in my sets and feeling positive that he will live on forever through his music. A year on from his passing I feel like it's time to share this mix with the world. I hope it helps all of us remember Navid and celebrate his life...

To celebrate this new accolade we asked Mr Kirkwood to record something different for our mixtape series...

"i've spent most of my time on my own during Lockdown.
This has pushed me into some deep contemplation at times, and that contemplation has most frequently been about my relationship with music.

If you consider that music is both the way i make my living and also the main way that I project myself to the world, then you'll probably agree it's a pretty natural thing for me to think about.

What I discovered was that I'd become unhappy with a lot of the things I was choosing to do

This revelation made me decide to reapproach what I do with my time, what I give value to, and what I choose to tell people is significant.

The most immediate change is that I now find myself working as an artist in Residence for Sage Gateshead, which is one of the most important Concert Venues in the UK.

Over the next 10 months the Sage is supporting me in making a performance piece which will push me as a music maker and conceptual artist, and which will allow me to explore another thing that I find very important, that is to say the notion of my regional identity and the things that I can do that use my skills and experience to make the region a better place to live.

Further to that I've found the time to work on other less immediately obvious projects which resonate more deeply with me.

I've finished an album with the Vocalist and songwriter "Marske" which will be out before the end of the year, and (despite some crazy curveballs) I'm making headway on my multi-vocalist album project as "Antisocial Alliance".

I'm also committed to launching a not-for-profit organisation very soon which will use the music I've dedicated my life to in a way that helps underprivileged or marginalised people in the North East of England.
The nicest thing I've found about all of this is that it's got me back to simply engaging with music because it pleases me, not because I need to pay the bills or because I feel like I need to use it to climb up some kind of imaginary pecking order.

All of these changes have meant that I get to record mixes like this one. 
Free from anyone else's opinion and for no other reason the fact that I wanted to record it.

I'm not saying it's the end for me as a DJ or House Music producer, as that's something I think is in my bones.
I think I am saying that I'll be doing it a lot more selectively now and that if you ever catch me doing either in future then you can be sure that the only reason I'm doing it is because I completely believe in what it is I'm doing at the time.

It was a great job, but I really needed to go back to doing it for the love instead"

I'm so honored and happy to present to you, in this week's show, the glamorous and bewitching Bill Brewster, a British writer, musician and record collector.
One minute he’s rocking the roof off at Fabric with his tough and funky big-room underground house; the next he’s charming the pants off a more intimate crowd with everything from dubby disco, funk and hip-hop to trip-hop and Latin batucadas. Armed with a sensitivity and sense of occasion that few DJs possess Bill Brewster knows how to work for a crowd in the best possible sense.

One of the foremost historians of djing, Bill began DJing in in the late 80s, but he cut his teeth playing ‘Low Life’ warehouse parties in Harlem and the East Village – he moved to NYC to run DMC’s US operation – and anyone hearing Bill today can see how these New York ‘roots’ shine through. For eclecticism, surprises, amazing unique music and sheer long-haul dedication to the dancefloor, Bill’s your man.

His other life is as a writer. Together with long-term pal Frank Broughton, Bill is author of the definitive history of DJing, Last Night A DJ Saved My Life, probably the best book about dance music, and has contributed his acid Grimsby with and encyclopaedic knowledge of music to just about every dance rag there is, not to mention The Guardian, Independent and Mail On Sunday. The Brewster-Broughton double act unveiled their latest hit in 2002 with the uniquely sardonic DJ manual How To DJ (Properly).

He’s an industry insider, having brought Twisted records to the UK and launched his own highly successful deep house label Forensic.
