METODI HRISTOV: Live at Egg London mix + interview

After his set on May 23rd, we caught up with Bulgarian based Metodi Hristov, talking about his exclusive mix recorded live at Egg, what he got up to whilst here in London, and what to expect from him in the not to distant future.

Hi Metodi, how are you today - what have you been up to since your set at Egg? 

 Hellooo :D I'm happy! After my gig at Egg London I traveled back home and started to work on a remix for Noir Music and the weekend after I was on a little tour in Russia. 

The mix is great and it was recorded right here at Egg! What was the idea behind your set that night?  

Thank you! It may sound trite, but the idea was to show myself through the music, like on every one of my gigs. I like the variety and always try to mix the tracks very fast and not to bore the people with long similarly sounding phrases. I’m also always trying to show a lot unheard and unique sounding tunes, tunes that you can't find on soundcloud or beatport. The main idea was to show something really different :)  

Are there any tunes in the mix that people should be looking out for? 

 I'm very proud with the fact, that I always play 50 - 60 % of my own music in my mixes including a lot unreleased material. In the mix you can hear upcoming tunes for labels like Defected, Terminal M, Noir Music, Toolroom Rec., Deeperfect Rec., Knee Deep, Material, Suruba, King Street, Kinetika, Be one Rec. and more. So stay tuned, big things are coming up very soon! :)

How did you find Egg more generally? 
Egg is one of the best clubs that I've ever played! The atmosphere, the crowd and the entire Egg crew… It was an amazing night, maybe because there were a lot of friends with me. It was really the perfect night for me!

Did you do anything else fun while you were in London? 

Yes, we had a lot of fun. I was travelling with my girlfriend and my brother and I also met so many friends. We had a really good time in London.

Finally what plans have you got for summer in terms of releases, gigs and personally?

I’m really looking forward to my South American tour in August. I'm going to stay about a month there and I'm very excited about it. Also many gigs in Europe and Asia are coming up, a lot releases for the labels that I’ve mentioned before and a lot collaborations with some of my favorite artists like Shosho, Gallya , Stefano Noferini and many more. But the biggest thing that I’m looking forward is the launch of my first label, together with Gallya and my agent Marin in the end of this year.

Alex Melis was born and raised in Corinth, Greece (1995) and he began his musical career in 2003 at the young age of 8. He was a member of the symphony orchestra of Loutraki, Greece and learned to play many wind instruments (trumpet, alto horn etc). 

From an early age Alex loved electronic music, especially house and he did his first steps in mixing and producing. Trying to maintain the balance of life and music, he’s now professionally in place since 2010. Since the age of 14 he has collaborated with all the successful clubs in his area, starting with many underground parties in many regions all over Greece.

Alex has already a lot of releases in record labels such as Datagroove Music, Nomad Species, Disguise Records, Nothing But, Clubshine Records [A&R Manager], Lightwave Music and others.

Over time, he made his own project called Reboot [2016-2019], organizing events mostly in Athens and collaborating with the best Greek Djs, as well as international Djs such as Oxia, Nakadia, Shlomi Aber, Neverdogs, Anja Schneider, Cassy, Dousk, Dimi Phaze, Letizia Carrero and others.

Whether a rolling techno bassline
or a dynamic tech-house project, Gallya’s ability to consistently
churn out dark and immersive yet vibrant tracks has made her
a force to be reckoned with in the scene. After her several releases on 'Mau5trap' and two remixes of 'Deadmau5' she  came to a turning point in her career and decided to move from techno back to tech house. In 2022 she is planning to open a new sub label of her 'Set About Music' called 'Set About South'. South will be more focused on releasing Tech and Minimal-deep Tech House. In 2015, she launched her own label ‘Set About’ in partnership
with Metodi Hristov. Though it’s only a few years old, 'Set About' is already touted as one of the most highly respected labels in techno, releasing artists like GusGus, Dennis Cruz, Stefano Noferini, Matt Sassari and more.
