We are honoured to have our long-time companion and resident DJ Alienata back for another KrakeCast. Her daytime garden set ://about blank for our festival this year was a highlight of the weekend. With a razor-sharp selection of electro and tribalistic breaks, she transformed the sunny dancefloor into a pandemonium for ritual turnups. Cinematic synths fused with deep bass and the dark yet sensual vibe that this DJ is known and loved for. Spinning Grounds w/ JED

The monthly show hosted by @katharina-davids is returning with guest @jedisadj 

For the past 13 years, Jed Cohen has been working in the Cape Town and South African underground music scene as a dj, producer, club curator / promoter at Modular Club and label head at City Bowl Wax Network. He also presents two monthly events in the form of VAULT and Champagne that have gained a strong reputation in city. He is also one of the founders of Vertigo Festival which launched in January 2025. 

JED’s sound seeks to encompass the totality of his influences, while keeping strong attention to the dance floor groove. Generally techno focused but not exclusively so, he is able to incorporate a wide range of  collection into his set keeping things unique and adaptable to many spaces and set times, spanning house music, jungle, break-beat and other more off kilter grooves. 
As a producer, JED makes use of tools both digital and analog in crafting a unique sound with recent contributions to labels including: City Bow Wax Network [ZA], Drawner Records [DE], PRX Records [ESP], Knowledge Recordings [ZA] and MALöR Records [DE], Koncept [ZA] & Muud [ZA]

His music has been supported by the likes of Eric Cloutier, Tripeo, Marrøn, A.Morgan, Vincent Neumann, and Justine Perry among others, with his tracks being played abroad in renowned dance clubs such as Berghain, Tresor and Kalt Club.

Over the past decade, JED has shared stages with a multitude of international talent including: DVS1, Sterac, Ben Sims, Talismann, Victor, Stephanie Sykes, Kaiser, SPFDJ, Rene Wise, Antigone, Dimi Angelis, Deniro, Anthony Parasole, Lewis Fautzi and more. 

Off the back of recent European shows at the infamous Tresor in Berlin and ADE, JED is harnessing the momentum, prepped and ready for the South African summer.

'Spinning Grounds' is all about opening grounds - for both newcomers and experienced selectors alike - to spin music outside of club spaces to explore a wide range of genres from house, Detroit, deep house, dub house, ambient, breaks, UK garage, minimal, dub techno to ........

This month's mix/livestream for Electronic Convergence looks like a real throwback after a quick flick through the tracklist featuring Anthony Rother, Hardfloor, Sniper Mode and UR003, but Mr Rother has recently re-released his classics in a double-vinyl package with edits of Red Light District and Destroy Him My Robots (I still prefer the originals!) and a new ep by Sniper Mode on Rawax. Hardfloor have also just released this colour splattered 4 remix ep of their track 'Machines On a Mission'. I threw in UR003 just because!

Notable some new excellent releases by Unwonted on Abstract Rhythm, DFD on We're Going Deep and by Versalife on Apnea. Lastly, two sublime remixes by E.R.P. from two separate eps that are just so beautiful. Enjoy!

This month's mix for Electronic Convergence is a shout out to the golden age of techno music - the late nineties - featuring classic tracks from legendary producers Jeff Mills, Ben Sims, Marco Carola and User. I started DJing and buying records in 1996 and remember when these tracks came out and the hype surrounding labels such as Axis, Purpose Maker, Theory, Question and User. I never get sick of playing and listening to these records.

•	GAMADON (aka GAvin MAc DONagh) started buying records and DJing in 1996.
•	Established the Warehouse Manifesto (WM) record label and guest mix series.
•	WMR001 was released in February 2022 and is distributed on Bandcamp and Juno records.
•	Had the privilege of warming up for The Prodigy, on their European tour in cities such as Berlin, Hanover, Prague and Luxembourg in 2015-2016.
•	First gigs were in my hometown of Mullingar in 1997 with Martian Arts, supporting the likes of 808 State and Sunil Sharpe in The Stables.
•	By 1998, I had secured myself gigs playing techno at the legendary Genius night @ Kitchen and also The POD alongside Warren Kiernan & Joe McGrath. I also played at Derek F’s acid techno parties @ Tivoli Theatre and 13thFloor/McGraths’ supporting Dave the Drummer, Chris Liberator and Lawrie Immersion.
•	Moving to Vancouver, Canada in 1999, I signed up with the Pound Recordings crew under the name ‘Dex of Hazzard’ and was resident at their weekly parties in The Palladium playing breakbeat and electro. I was also invited to play club Sonar and various raves around the city. I also played club Rebar in the city of Edmonton.
•	In 2001, I moved back to Mullingar and started a weekly hard-techno night called ‘The Beat Bunker’ in Daly’s in Mullingar, giving local DJs a chance to play in an intimate venue.
•	In 2003, the next destination was Bermuda. For the three years living and working in this scenic, secluded island, I co-ran the Calisthenics house music parties with DJ Andy Schnerg of Toronto. The Hip Therapy parties were a great success, being Bermuda’s only House and Techno night.
•	I started the Disco Nouveau parties in Mullingar in 2008. This monthly event was held in The Stables live music venue – hosting DJs like Sunil Sharpe, Fran Hartnett, Al Keegan, Niall Power, Barry Redsetta and even DJ Mes, label owner of Legendary US West-Coast house label Guesthouse!). This night ran for 4 memorable years.
•       Long-standing resident with Project Basement, based in Galway.
