Recently relocating from southern Chile to The Big Smoke to explore new musical horizons, Sam’s mix for On the 5th Day is a beautiful invitation into his world - a mind-trippin’, soul-stirring sonic adventure, evolving and expanding in all the right ways, captivating us from beginning to end.

We adore a journey that expands and contracts, non-linear, hypnotic and immersive, emotive soundscapes penetrating the workings of the mind and transporting us to a place of deep inner silence, presence, and connection. Sam’s track selection and mixing truly speaks to us, the final result transcending in a way we were deeply yearning for today.

Full bio:
Sam is an ambient & techno artist from southern Chile who recently moved to the UK searching for new horizons in his musical journey. 

His sound is characterized for being hypnotic, deep & electric, always looking for new concepts to evolve into an intense balance as much in his productions as his live gigs. 

In 6 years of consistent live dj and music production career Sam has a 5 year residency at La Vieja Escuela Club, 3 argentinian tours, 3 LP, 12 EP, 14 VA collabs, 3 singles, several gigs in the top clubs in Chile, a recently gig at Under Club’s 10 year anniversary in may 2023 and Wrong London in October 2023. 

In 2019 founded his own event planner “Black Spot” in Pucón. In 2023, with more than 50 events planned, the project got into the chilean capital Santiago as well. 

With Sam hosting some of the most recognized south american djs like Bruno Ledesma, Cia Rebeck, Farceb, Forest On Stasys, Kid Riot, Mariano DC, Pulso & Zemog, Black Spot has become a must-go for serious techno lovers in Chile. 

In 2021 Sam founded his own label named Dosis Records, having notable hypnotic techno artists like Bruno Ledesma, Caue, CTAFAD, Dorian Gray, Esteban Miranda, Farceb, Joaquin Ruiz, Kontinum, Petit Astronaute & Zemog in more than 17 releases. 

Sam has released in known hypnotic techno labels such as Concepto Hipnótico, Codecast, Dorian, Liminal Spaces, Nferee, Postdynamic & Space Textures, just to name a few.

This month's set is a mix of Deep Electro and some Machine Funk. The Fanzine label features largely with an amazing new ep from Nullptr and a various artist release with tracks from Carl Finlow, Univac and Sound Synthesis. Another quality records I recently picked up was the 214 release on Frustrated Funk and all three tracks feature in the mix. Also, a shout out Irish label Instrinsic Rhythm and the new ep by Irish Electro legends Decal - one of the reasons I got into electro back in the late nineties!

This audio is from the practice run of the actual show. They are very similar but the video has a few extra tracks.

Electronic Convergence Mix - June 2024

Odd Hills, originally from Lithuania and now based in London, is a techno DJ known for his deep, immersive sound. He co-founded Temple.Recordings and runs the event series Temple.Invites. Additionally, he manages Temple.Prayer, a podcast series that showcases both emerging and established techno artists.

Despite living in London, Odd Hills has performed in cities like Vilnius and Glasgow. He prefers to keep a low profile, focusing more on his podcast releases than live shows. This approach allows him to stay true to his musical roots while continually exploring new sounds.

Hoy tenemos con nosotros a Ridoo, un gran motor de las electrónicas de vanguardia, propulsado por su afán de búsqueda e innovación. 

Su historia comienza en la escena indie e idm madrileña junto a los componentes del grupo Sylvania, dirigiendo su propio club: No Name. Pionero de sonidos electrónicos de vanguardia en el panorama nacional. Tras una breve estancia en Inglaterra traslada el movimiento chill-out a Andalucía, junto al colectivo Cara B de Granada, donde más tarde dirigió junto a Noloop la tienda Loop Discos. Su trayectoria ha ido evolucionando desde el ambient y los sonidos eclécticos de sus inicios hacia dos vertientes musicales: Una enfocada a la pista (avant-techno, minimal, idm, electro, ebm, etc.) y otra más experimental, donde desarrolla sesiones concebidas como expediciones a través del sonido hipnótico y cerebral, en las cuales también ha incluido músicos en directo.

Ha paseado su maleta por toda España, requerido en festivales como @fiberfib, Espárrago Rock o @sonarfestival, siendo el encargado de abrir la edición de 2004 en el Sonarvillage, así como por festivales internacionales como el Hanna Hanna Festival en Eslovaquia o eventos culturales como Creativa 07 en Sevilla.

Desde finales del 2004 entra a formar parte del colectivo @migacultura, pionero en el sector de netlabels en España y productora de eventos electrónicos, desde donde desarrolla entre otros proyectos la programación del Miga Club en Granada.

En la cabina ha acompañado a artistas como R. Hawtin, M. Carola, Kotai, Stewart Walker, Closer Musik, John Gaiser, Rose y Ulysse, Tobias Thomas o Superpitcher en la pista de baile y con Strand, Tuyiko Noriko, Isan, Fibla, Eedl, Rec Overflow o Thomas Khöner en la parte más experimental.
Inicia hacia 2015 una nueva etapa en dos colectivos simultáneamente:
“IIcono”, donde dirige, produce y actúa, desarrollando eventos de corte muy experimental con actuaciones en directo y sesiones, por otro lado “Antenna” junto al dj y productor @becario77, más enfocado al post punk, electro y sonidos industriales.

Actualmente sigue interesado en la parte más experimental y abstracta de la escena, forma parte del colectivo “La colmena” donde organizan eventos fuera del circuito comercial, aportando vanguardia e innovación

This month's mix/livestream for Electronic Convergence looks like a real throwback after a quick flick through the tracklist featuring Anthony Rother, Hardfloor, Sniper Mode and UR003, but Mr Rother has recently re-released his classics in a double-vinyl package with edits of Red Light District and Destroy Him My Robots (I still prefer the originals!) and a new ep by Sniper Mode on Rawax. Hardfloor have also just released this colour splattered 4 remix ep of their track 'Machines On a Mission'. I threw in UR003 just because!

Notable some new excellent releases by Unwonted on Abstract Rhythm, DFD on We're Going Deep and by Versalife on Apnea. Lastly, two sublime remixes by E.R.P. from two separate eps that are just so beautiful. Enjoy!

Giegling records are quite rare and fetch considerable prices on Discogs, so are in quite high demand when first released. After that, we are at the mercy of the sharks!

This month's mix for Electronic Convergence is a shout out to the golden age of techno music - the late nineties - featuring classic tracks from legendary producers Jeff Mills, Ben Sims, Marco Carola and User. I started DJing and buying records in 1996 and remember when these tracks came out and the hype surrounding labels such as Axis, Purpose Maker, Theory, Question and User. I never get sick of playing and listening to these records.

•	GAMADON (aka GAvin MAc DONagh) started buying records and DJing in 1996.
•	Established the Warehouse Manifesto (WM) record label and guest mix series.
•	WMR001 was released in February 2022 and is distributed on Bandcamp and Juno records.
•	Had the privilege of warming up for The Prodigy, on their European tour in cities such as Berlin, Hanover, Prague and Luxembourg in 2015-2016.
•	First gigs were in my hometown of Mullingar in 1997 with Martian Arts, supporting the likes of 808 State and Sunil Sharpe in The Stables.
•	By 1998, I had secured myself gigs playing techno at the legendary Genius night @ Kitchen and also The POD alongside Warren Kiernan & Joe McGrath. I also played at Derek F’s acid techno parties @ Tivoli Theatre and 13thFloor/McGraths’ supporting Dave the Drummer, Chris Liberator and Lawrie Immersion.
•	Moving to Vancouver, Canada in 1999, I signed up with the Pound Recordings crew under the name ‘Dex of Hazzard’ and was resident at their weekly parties in The Palladium playing breakbeat and electro. I was also invited to play club Sonar and various raves around the city. I also played club Rebar in the city of Edmonton.
•	In 2001, I moved back to Mullingar and started a weekly hard-techno night called ‘The Beat Bunker’ in Daly’s in Mullingar, giving local DJs a chance to play in an intimate venue.
•	In 2003, the next destination was Bermuda. For the three years living and working in this scenic, secluded island, I co-ran the Calisthenics house music parties with DJ Andy Schnerg of Toronto. The Hip Therapy parties were a great success, being Bermuda’s only House and Techno night.
•	I started the Disco Nouveau parties in Mullingar in 2008. This monthly event was held in The Stables live music venue – hosting DJs like Sunil Sharpe, Fran Hartnett, Al Keegan, Niall Power, Barry Redsetta and even DJ Mes, label owner of Legendary US West-Coast house label Guesthouse!). This night ran for 4 memorable years.
•       Long-standing resident with Project Basement, based in Galway.
