Tale of Two Countries is a project made by MES 56 for an exhibition "Concept, Context, Contestation: Art and Collective in Southeast Asia" at Bangkok Art Cultural Center in Bangkok, Thailand.

This project looking for the similarities between Javanese (Yogyakarta) and Thailand (Bangkok). Yogyakarta has a 'slang' language (a reversed Javanese phonetic) which sounds like Thai language pronunciation. In Javanese popular culture, everything big are called with a suffix 'bangkok', like 'pitik bangkok' (big chicken). The other similarities are the elephant and banyan tree. There is a huge stone looks like an elephant head in Mount Merapi. Local people called it Elephant stone. A white banyan tree was found in the Mount Merapi hills.

MES 56 collaborate with a hip-hop unit Mlethod Man to create a song based on this concept. The lyrics is about the similarities and wrote in Javanese slang language. The music mixed of Javanese and Thai traditional musics and sounds.

NGILA - When I Lost You

My name is Balance Perdana Putra. I am a music producer/beatmaker. I grew up in Suryoputran, an urban neighbourhood which is located inside the Kraton area in Yogyakarta city. Most people probably knew me from a rap group, Jogja Hiphop Foundation, as one of the rapper and also beatmaker.

My works are mostly influenced by culture and traditions around me, where i grew up in, and then mixed with modern urban beats. I really enjoy “clashing” different things together to create and produce interesting sounds. 
The name “Gamellance” is actually taken from the word “gamelan” and my own name of course, “balance”. Why gamelan? Because, why not? (LOL)No, it is because gamelan is one of my spirits in work. It was a thing I grew up with, my culture, my tradition. That is why i often put gamelan touches on my works. That is why i enjoy my works, and hopefully you will too. 

And now, recently, I also put my works into a wider scope. I also did some music for advertisement projects, animations, company profiles, and video motions, which i, too, enjoy every second of the process.
