Spin Fidelity is Antonio Velazquez a DJ producer and record label manager (Magnonic Signals) from England. He has been playing records for over 20yrs in and held residencies in Manchester and also his hometown of Macclesfield. He currently plays on Timeline Music once a month streaming live DJ sets. With his music under the alias Spin Fidelity, he makes electro and techno/house music very much with Detroit stylings and sound aesthetics. His own label Magnonic Signals showcases new and exciting producers as well as veterans always on vinyl format with soulful electronics. From the very first track, it’s clear that Abby Echiverri’s debut, the “Ab Initio” EP is something different and rare: a polished and fresh interpretation of electronic music that incorporates classic electro squelches with intricate broken beats and expansive synthesizer zone-outs. Although this is her first EP, Abby has extensive history as a musician, sound engineer, DJ and VJ. Her current trajectory started early in childhood when she was classically trained in violin, flute, piano and vocals, cementing music as a part of her daily life. In high school she picked up turntables and began collecting records, eventually moving to NYC to study recording engineering and perform in post-punk bands, and became a regular at Wierd and The Bunker at a very young age. Since then, Echiverri has devoted her professional hours to engineering, maintaining, and manufacturing audio equipment for studios and clubs around the world. 

This record’s name “Ab Initio” means “from the beginning” or “from first principles”, invoking a propulsive leap into the future and also perhaps including an element of the eponymous. When we asked her to tell us more about the process of creating these hardware-based jams, Abby explained: “It all stems from my own experiences on the dancefloor and wanting to recreate that for other people. I want to make music that rewires the brain: music that is challenging, yet groovy... repetitive, yet evolving. An aural psychedelic. It's a lofty goal - I'm still working on it.” If Ab Initio is one of her first steps towards that goal then we can’t wait to see what happens next.

In the outer reaches of space the station floated effortlessly through the night sky, navigating its way across a dark canvas painted with bright stars. A lost generation of humans had come to inhabit this territory in search of something greater than planet earth had to offer. Here they existed harmoniously alongside different worlds and species, they barely remembered the lives they'd previously led down below on solid ground...

Basic Moves continue their mission to showcase the forgotten corners of electronic music from their home country of Belgium. Making his return to the label for the third time, and the twelfth label release, is Sebastian S. under his Caustic 14 moniker, this time with a batch of exclusive tracks produced between 1993 and 1996. His textural sound shines brightly over the six tracks; a healthy mix of crisp breaks, jungle drum workouts and bleepy electro. To quote the label "these compositions emerged during many sleepless nights spent watching videos of science fiction series such as Babylon 5 or Star Trek, scrutinising each episode while composing. Behind these six pieces are six keywords that have a story: BWP, PK, Network, D-jacking Zone Elypsia, Planet-E and Brussels! Another fantastic release from Basic Moves showcasing the rich history of Belgium.

Originally released via Terraform Records in 1995, 'Systems E.P. 1' was certainly too ahead of its time to meet with success back in the day. That said, as years went by, so swelled the reputation of this sextet of visionary, alien-engineered jams, soon turning the once $1 bin find into a highly sought-after item on the second-hand market. Much to the displeasure of hardline speculators but for the greatest joy of skint '90s sound lovers, KOC reissues the Systems experience in full force and effect.

Harbouring a trio of submersible ambient-tech and 303-driven breaky weapons, Red Shift's own dedicated A-side has lost nothing of its soul-fulfilling appeal. Getting the ball rolling, '3rd Moon' skippers us to brightly hued sound niches, where trancey acid motifs merge with slo-moving ambient pads and uptempo breakbeat on a frenzy. Laced with a hint of bleepy abstraction, the more lascivious, piano-laden 'Audity' then shifts the scope to further introspective depths before 'Himalayas' takes us on a mind-expanding ride across imaginary snow-capped summits and lushly forested slopes.

Flip it over and here comes Ether and their mightily explosive 'Detonator' - a wild and woolly acid number that shall not go without conjuring up memories of the early Prodigy's mid-nineties rave exploits. Not to be confused with that of his contemporary Australian counterpart, Escape Artist's 'Rain Eternal' evokes the soulful RnB suavity of Sade's classics, adorned with otherworldly organic warbles and addictive piano stabs. Constants of Nature vibey closer 'Slow Symmetry Breaking' rounds off the journey on a further distinctively atmospheric note, perfect to muster up the energy and drive to take it on the lam from our crazy world.
