I did only have 4 hours to get it recorded however so getting that amount of tracks down was pretty good. Would like to have got a bit keyboard on it and spent more time on it but whatever. Rhythm guitar was played by Scott NG (the second biggest Oasis fan alive.) Have a listen.

Following the 50 year anniversary of The Beatles’ 1963 album “Please, Please Me” I got thinking about how outstandingly successful the album was.

Please, Please Me made history for being recorded in just 1 day and now 50 years on, the record has still never been beaten. This got me wondering whether the fact that it was recorded on a 2-track BTR tape recording machine (meaning that they didn’t have the technology to mess around with sound effects or overdubs) gave it more of a raw sound? Does recording with the modern, 24-track, digital equipment take away that human element that the original, analogue recording equipment preserved?

Script presented by Marianna Tomarelli with live radio interviews from Jamie Turnbull (analogue sound engineer) and Peter MacDonald (experienced session musician) this is my complete radio documentary in its whole 3 minute glory. Enjoy.

Another composition from the isolation chamber, "Can't Stay At Home" shares a distorted view of being trapped indoors alone during quarantine. Confined, with only yourself and “the voices” as company, things inevitably start to get a little bit crazy. Its light hearted and exaggerated lyrics may be a bit difficult to make out so I've posted them below. The track also features some very muddy sounding guitars, mixed horribly on Audacity, (a free computer software) in 5 hours.

Can't Stay At Home (Original)

Finally managed to put my vintage Bontempi chord organ to use. You can hear it proudly humming along on this new track.

For a nice simple song like this, it's actually had me tearing my hair out the past few days. With so many instruments overcrowding the reflective tone of the song, I've removed a lot of what was originally recorded and this is it now actually at its most "stripped back".

I'm also open to suggestions for a new title.

Things These Days (Original)

This was so much fun to record. I'll definitely need a couple of drinks tonight to ease the itchy throat its given me though.

Covering one of Scotland's finest, the Sensational Alex Harvey Band. Everything with the exception of the drum track (a mixture of samples chopped together) was recorded in 1 or 2 takes, just being fair to the neighbours. The old police siren is sampled from an episode of Only Fools and Horses. Enjoy.

This week's lockdown jam features Eric Brock on lead vocal covering one of the softer tracks of T. Rex's mammoth "Electric Warrior" album. Let us take you back to 1971 where the end of Beatlemania opened a gap in the market for starry eyed swooning teens, lusting over the new popular sounds of glam rock, courtesy of acts such as David Bowie, Mott the Hoople, Sweet, Slade and Tyrannosaurus Rex.
