Downplay is proud to welcome London-based producer Jack Selecta to the label for his debut release.

‘Dust Off’ expertly draws on the musical legacy of UK Garage, retro-fitting the saccharine sweetness of it’s golden era with a heavyweight modern exoskeleton. Bass is deployed with an innate understanding of what will tear a club up, and this track is guaranteed to do absolutely that.

‘Gosh’ deftly extrapolates the core mechanics of Bingo-Era UK Garage and twists them into something new and innovative. Relentless bass mutates throughout, interwoven with choice samples and keys for a truly refreshing and forward-thinking
production.

Label-mate MKII steps up to reconfigure the lead track into something altogether darker, showcasing his unique take on the UKG sound. Brooding chords play out over intricately woven percussion whilst peak-time piano lines and strings bring the drama.

Jack Selecta - Gosh (DWN016)

Downplay is proud to welcome South West production duo Earthnut to the label with their brand new release, ‘Protosynthesis’.

‘Hollow Man’ rolls out on sprightly keys and chopped beats before unfolding into a pitch perfect UKG shuffler that manages to pack oscillating chords, sugar sweet female vocals, punchy bass and a cheeky sample that will raise a wry smile, all into one sublime track.

‘Knucklethump’ provides an even smoother mood to it’s predecessor with a jazzed-out top-line and bumpy percussion that is precision-tooled to get waists winding, before expanding even further in it’s final third with some seriously spicy creative touches to keep the dancefloor jumping.

‘Gunker’ is likely to be the track that really open some ears though, with it’s left-field assimilation of the UKG template into something utterly new but captivating. Reminiscent of the Compost-era broken beat sound, but manipulated into something closer to a subtle dub techno vibe, it defies labeling but is indicative of creative minds reaching their full potential as artists.

Another month means Another release!! Thanks again all for all the support on the Jay Ward EP as we managed another Juno Number 1!. This month we give you Dubzta, A well known Grime/Dubstep Producer from the roster over at our sister label Project Allout records. This EP has had major early support from the legend that is DJ EZ over on his NuVolve Radio including it being a Track of the Week! 

So to start off with...
1. Overdue - The Lead track from the EP, this 140bpm 4x4 Hitter brings hard hitting energy to the the release, with a melody that will be stuck in your head for weeks with beautiful piano strings in the backing it up! We are so happy to get this out there as it's been a personal favourite for a while now.
2. Out of here - Now onto Out of here, this one is a complete different style of vibe compared to Overdue, this ones a melodic 2-Step with more melodic chord structure's from Dubzta, this ones more of the early starting warm up style.
3. All Day All Night - Going from Four to the Floor heavy hitters to 2 Step Vibing we now bring you a 4x4 House banger! this ones the one to get everyone moving from there screens at home to there car radios. Simplistic vocal chops and melodies again make this a tune from the starting days of sunday scenes to 2020!
4. Clarky - The final track brings another smooth 2-Step track with classic garage sounds tucked inside, this simplistic banger has another body moving feel to it which will feel the sound systems and car radios across the country.

Garage Shared is a community and a label dedicated to supporting new UK Garage music.

Founded in 2017 by the Southampton collective, FooR, after the group revitalised the infamous ‘Pure Garage’ compilation the Garage Shared label has made it their mission to provide a platform for UK Garage producers of all shapes and sizes to release their music and develop as artists. Joined by fellow Southampton DJ, Bitr8 a year later the label helped bring through artists such as Soulecta, Tuff Culture and many more, gaining support from some of the most well known Garage DJs, producers and specialist radio shows in the scene. This support has helped elevate each individual artist's profile while also promoting the sound of UKG across the world.
