I remember watching this music video on MTV and it honestly inspired so much of my desire to be a touring musician in a band someday. This song sort of captures that nostalgic vibe for me of wanting to be on the road when I grew up.

I honestly recorded this quite a few years ago and always considered adding more guitar to the bridge + ending. But in an effort to push myself out of perfectionism, here it is!

Wrote this tune a long time ago (yearssss ago) and had the chance to record it with my pal Tim Race at his studio in Brooklyn during early winter of 2013. Really cool studio where they cut the second floor out of half an apartment to make a huge sound space for tracking. Rad night. Did this all pretty much in a matter of an hour, and it's live (with the exception of the backing vocals). Kinda rough, but still a solid memory of my time in New York.

	In mid-September my band, Indigo Wild, had the opportunity to open for Youth Lagoon at the Basement in Columbus. We had a really meaningful conversation with Trevor Powers (the main brains behind YL) before and after the show. He told us about how he ended up in the position he is now, touring America, and how fortunate he is to see his dreams coming true. Needless to say, I left the Basement pretty inspired.
	Fast forward a few weeks into fall quarter and I couldn’t stop listening to The Year of Hibernation. Initially, it was Powers’ marching rhythms, catchy melodies, and overall compositional brilliance that drew me into Youth Lagoon. But when the haziness of his vocals became a bit more clear and familiar, I began to discover a great deal of meaning in the lyrics; like he was reading my mind. And sure, it’s happened before with music, but this time hit deeper than most. Then everything clicked when I read an interview with Powers about his inspiration and purpose behind writing. 
	Anxiety. It’s something I’ve found very hard to explain, lyrically. But it’s something Powers expresses so well. And I applaud him for that; but mostly I am grateful for his songs, because they let me know that I’m not the only one lost in my head sometimes. I’m not the only one consumed by thoughts or feelings I can’t control. And I’m not the only one nostalgic about my youth. 
	So, this is my cover of “Seventeen.” This track is one of my favorites on the album, and it means a lot to me. I recorded everything you hear in my apartment, over the course of a weekend in October. It was so refreshing to lose myself in this song, and I hope you enjoy it. If you haven’t yet, give the original song a listen, as well as the rest of the album. It’s absolutely incredible, and in my case, life changing.
