Cliff was the local bad boy,
Sandy the owner’s daughter.
That gold-ringed nose has cost him
All the Born To Be Wild he taught her.
The Rebel as a class is obsolete,
They’re Black Sheep to the Altar.

War And Peace

There's more to this Anglican hymn than often meets the ear. It was written as the preface to William Blake's poem about his fellow Radical John Milton and is an Arthurian vision of the new England fought for by the Parliamentary side in the English Civil War. The music was added in 1916 as a bid to raise national morale in the darkest days of the First World War.
