Just listened to the full statement by Sir John Chilcot this morning. The enquiry into the conduct surrounding the Iraq War has concluded what most observers suspected for years (and many of us at the time) that the whole thing was an utter mess arrived at by not listening to the experts, ignoring the warnings and not having a plan. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the armed forces who lost their lives and to the hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens and their families who were killed as a result of the conflict. The words of a song seem so incredibly inadequate for such terrible things ....but I offer this one that I wrote in 2007 to try and make sense of what had and what was happening.
