This segment, from Episode 6 of Mad Scientists of Music (http://garethstack.com/tag/madscientists), won the Sounds Alive 'Your Story Your Sound' Prize, 2014.

The piece takes us on a musical journey into the hills above Brighton, where avant-garde music finds a home in an ancient landscape.

Irish electronic musician Ewan Hennelly (HERV / ZPG), has found a way to combine his two passions; hiking and electronic music. Climbing the hills and valleys of the South Downs, Ewan takes part in geocaching. Tracking down geocaches (tiny boxes for marked on an online map) with his GPS, Ewan leaves cassettes of his experimental music albums for curious travellers to encounter.

WHITE AT NIGHT Hosted by Joe White

Devoted to honoring our history and its telling through music.

One of the most pleasant ways to grasp human history is by listening to and pondering our music. This is a show where music and history flow as one. Truly wonderful music is a reflection of the times in which it was born and the vast human experience preceding it. 

White At Night is an audio exploration of various artists' lives and the history that shaped their music. Not only can we discover where we have come from, but above all where we can go.

In a nutshell, this show is about life as expressed through tales from our song writers, poets and musicians, not from some marketing or otherwise canned factories.

Whether I am presenting a celebrated bassoonist from Vienna or an obscure blues picker from Mississippi, one of the most magnificent gifts we humans have created is music. Therefore, my show aims to spread the goodness of music, elaborate on the stories behind the songs and expound the myriad of human conditions that have shaped these tunes. 

Knowing our history and enjoying our music automatically conjures up strong emotions and gives perspective to the listener. Making people feel good about themselves and life as a whole is the objective of tuning in to White at Night.
