Your Planet Is Next is the nom de guerre of one Arvid Wretman – multidisciplinary artist, live performer and noise maker from Stockholm, Sweden. Since his 2014 debut cassette under the YPIN alias, through two floor-optimised solo EPs for Studio Barnhus, this self-proclaimed “Mr. Music” has terrorised us with the most gloriously disturbed electronic funk, all while cultivating his puzzling YPIN persona: part failed pop-star, part extraterrestrial threat. On his first full-length release for Studio Barnhus, emotions range from acidic romance to pure paranoia. Rave, screw, electro and chill vibes are all combined on an album that plays like an exhilarating journey through the mind of a mad genius.

Gil Scott Heron vient de rejoindre Lady Day et John  Coltrane au panthéon des artistes afro-américains. Son influence sur la musique actuelle est revendiquée tant par des artistes soul et hip-hop que par des chanteurs de pop ou de rock. Patchworks , le musicien et producteur derrière tant d’excellent projets funky comme Mr President, MJA où Mister Day, a lui aussi été transformé par l’écoute du poète soul. Il lui a donc dédié ces deux thèmes émouvants qui évoquent les magnifiques compositions des mid-70s avec Brian Jackson, à qui la flûte de  Guillaume Clary fait immédiatement penser. ‘RIP with Lady Day, RIP with John Coltrane’.

Our planet... IS NEXT!? Yes, this is in fact the case, at least according to one Stockholm-dwelling, 30-something (wishes-he-was-a) failed pop star, real name Arvid Wretman.

Just how he fell from his position as poster boy of Kärrtorp's ever-vibrant noise scene to the pill-popping, Cher-covering discotheque pleaser standing before us today, we could not tell you. What we do know is that Studio Barnhus stands ready to ride that cash train all the way 'til the bitter end!

So yeah, wanna pop some pills? Or do you wanna chill? Varför alltid dansa och spela det ena? ...and do you, or not, believe in life after love? A long time operator in Stockholm's small but insistent underground music scene, Art Alfie broke through internationally in 2012 with the Karlovak project, founded with on-off studio and dj partner Rudolf Nordström, a.k.a. Mr. Tophat. The duo's inexplicably fresh takes on classic dance music tropes were as much a result of a brilliantly odd pairing of personalities as of a defined concept and precise method in searching for the perfect house groove.

While writing Reveries Of, released February 2017 through Studio Barnhus, Art Alfie freed himself of all conceptual footholds, delving instead deep into his archives of old and new memories and feels, working with improptu field recordings and emotionally-guided sampling processes. He came back with an intricate and personal debut album and you better believe he didn't lose that groove on his way.

"I made the album this spring during an intense creative period back home in Stockholm. I was obsessed with my studio, I wanted to spend all my time awake there. I found out I was getting evicted from it, this sudden chock turned into a decision to do this album. It made sense, like an "end of an era" thing. I was pretty isolated back then, spending almost all my time outside of the studio with my daughter Bozi. She snapped the cover photo while I was picking out records for a gig. I never wanted to leave the studio during these months, but I realise now how the breaks with Bozi worked for the process - they gave me space to reflect on the music I was making. Another pristine transmission from Sofia Kourtesis via Studio Barnhus, with the Berlin-based Peruvian dj/producer following up her instant hit debut EP released a year ago, once again treating us with four forward-thinking dance tracks chock-full of intricate rhythms and next-level audio wizardry. Proceedings start with the relentlessly catchy Sarita Colonia before Moninga shifts things up with its dizzying groove and sampledelic patchwerk patterns. Third track Hollywood has quickly become a Studio Barnhus party favourite, its smooth melodics contrasted with a mind-expanding mid-section, while Akariku closes the EP with introspective musings over glistening arpeggios and inverted wailings. Sarita Colonia EP is released as a limited vinyl 12'' on December 13, before the full digital release arrives February 14.

Having lit up sunsets and sunrises the world over with their first outing on Leng, the deliciously Balearic ‘Last Night in Sant Celoni’, Payfone has opted for a more sensual and seductive sound on their triumphant follow-up.
 
Phil Passera and Jimmy Day are in fine form on ‘Sofian’, a deep, chugging and intoxicating affair topped off by a sleazy and breathy, half-sung and half-spoken vocal from Barbara Alcindor, previously of hugely successful European chart-toppers French Affair.
 
As with previous Payfone productions, no samples were used in the creation of the track. Instead, Passera and Day focus the action around hypnotic, slow-motion machine drums and a brilliant analogue synthesizer bassline that will quickly worm its way into your subconscious. 
 
On top of this the pair has layered up warming chords, languid boogie-style guitar riffs, colourful synthesizer lines, hand percussion and mazy Wurlitzer electric piano solos played by guest musician Phil Marten. It’s an undeniably alluring combination of musical elements that offers a clever counterpoint to the barely hidden melancholia within the track’s surprising lyrics.
 
Jimmy Day delivers the flipside ‘Loyal Mix’, a slightly brighter and more vivid interpretation that gives extra weight to the track’s razor-sharp guitar riffs and kaleidoscopic synth sounds. The result is a weighty, synth-powered dub disco workout that makes a fine accompaniment to one of Payfone’s most dramatic and addictive songs to date.
