Luca Roccatagliati, better known as DJ Rocca, is a genre-defying Italian DJ and producer whose music fuses jazz, funk, disco, house, and italo with an analog, hands-on approach. A classically trained flutist from Reggio Emilia, Rocca began his journey in the late ’90s as Maffia Soundsystem, building his reputation through breakbeat and drum & bass.

Over the years, Rocca has collaborated with international icons like Dimitri From Paris, Daniele Baldelli, and Howie B, and formed projects like Ajello, Crimea X, Supersonic Lovers, and Electric Tree. His rich sound has found a home on prestigious labels including Compost, !K7, Gomma, Rekids, and Futureboogie.

Known for championing analog gear, Rocca emphasizes human touch in his music-crafting soulful, danceable tracks. He also runs his own label, Danny Was A Drag King, curating eclectic electronic artists.

With performances at Fabric, Berghain, and festivals like Sonar and Glastonbury, Luca remains a revered figure in electronic music. His recent projects, like Roccapofortuna with Capofortuna, the EP Code 041 and the album CocoRocca Discoteca, show his commitment to pushing boundaries while honoring the roots of dance music.

Here's another instalment of my series focussing on one particular artist, producer or record label and this time I've chosen one of my all time faves - The 6th Borough Project. Ever since I've discovered the underground disco and house scene I think I've rarely played a set that doesn't contain one of their tracks or remixes, such is the staying power of their productions. DJ and producer Elado has carved out a unique niche in the electronic scene with his infectious blend of rare global grooves, disco edits, and crate-digging wizardry. A lifelong vinyl obsessive, Elado rose to international acclaim in 2020 with his debut on Razor-N-Tape, catching the attention of selectors like Hunee, Antal, and Gerd Janson.

His sound fuses African rhythms, Middle Eastern melodies, and vintage disco with modern dancefloor energy-equal parts joyful and surprising. Tracks like “Gulab Jamun” and “Big Baba” became cult favorites, blending humor, funk, and irresistible rhythm.

In 2024, he launched Big Baba Records, a platform for his own edits and global disco experiments, and also dropped “Funk Machine” on Barry Can’t Swim’s label, Earth’s Only Paradise, further cementing his reputation for genre-defying dancefloor magic.

With releases on GAMM, Running Back, Toy Tonics, and more, Elado continues to push the boundaries of what a dancefloor can feel like-happy, weird, warm, and wildly fun.
