Nyege Nyege is synonymous with radical sonic innovation. Since 2015, the boundary-pushing Ugandan festival and its associated label have become a vital hub for adventurous, experimental sounds emerging from East Africa and beyond. Its alumni roster includes some of the past decade's most thrilling and forward-thinking artists—DJ Travella, Nihiloxica, Juliana Huxtable, MC Yallah, and even New York's mayoral frontrunner, Zohran Mamdani. In the process, the collective has reimagined what club music can be.

On the B side mix is Kampire. The Kampala-based DJ has been a core member of the collective since the label's inception. Her mixes often feel like a lesson in musicology, weaving together narratives, tempos and genres while losing nothing in dance floor vitality. These talents are reflected in her contribution to RA.995. A typically kaleidoscopic blend of tough percussive workouts, infectious edits and raw, unreleased gems, the hour-long mix spans batida, singeli, bruxaria and countless more urgent sounds from the global underground.

The other half of this special release comes from the enigmatic DJ TOBZY, which you can find on the A-side. 

Presented together, as the first edition of a new format marking the countdown to RA.1000, this two-sided mix offers a bracing snapshot of a label that has redefined electronic music over the last decade.

This week’s CENTER BOOTH set is brought to you by none other than Brooklyn’s WTCHCRFT aka one of the fiercest producers and DJs on the techno circuit, with principles as staunch and uncompromising as his most hammering club cuts.

A favourite at NYC institutions including Bossa Nova Civic Club, Paragon and Mood Ring, WTCHCRFT’s singular talents have also attracted bookings at leading clubs and events across the US and the world, including Chicago’s smartbar, Draaimolen Festival in the Netherlands, RSO.BERLIN, Munich’s Blitz, Dweller Festival and WIRE Festival. 

He’s released on labels including Clasico, Starry, BOYSNOIZE, HAVEN and, most memorably, on Al Gharib, where his 2024 One Struggle EP invoked cultural resistance in a time of fascism and genocide. In the past 22 months, much of his anti-capitalist, anti-colonial work has revolved around building solidarity in electronic music and politicizing the rave, demonstrating that such values enhance, rather than detract from, the potency of the music and vibe of the party.

Departing from the furious, pummelling energy of his techno sets, WTCHCRFT’s relentlessly entertaining CENTER BOOTH entry presents the best in modern experimental club music. Innovation and intrigue mark these body-jacking tracks from the likes of Sina xx, nextdimensional, Swimful and WTCHCRFT himself. Bouncy bass, fancy footwork, witchy acid, ghetto house, deconstructed club and other indescribable genres make up this agile, slippery set that promises to keep you guessing just as much as it will keep you moving.
