If We Were Free

Our country’s tears I see
No longer falling free
Of this I sing.
Land of the sycophant
And of the righteous rant
Heed what I say, you can’t 
Let rule a king.

Our country’s history
Of slaves and misery
And so much more.
Rich thieves play mortal Gods
Dull green on bloody sod
Spare the child and break the rod
To feed the poor.

Evermore shall tyrants reign 
To feed themselves our pain
With haughty glut. 
If silent shall we stay
Or pretend all is ok
You too will be put away
A common mut.

The longer we ignore
All that we should abhor
We welcome death. 
Our fragile minds will break
Our ruined bodies shake
Vultures circle to partake
The final breath.

There is no God
For we wrote it all, you see
All that can be.
If we can join our arms
Help those escape false charms
We may yet hold off harms
And truly be free.

My primary interest is songwriting which I’ve been doing since I was a kid.  I have some music background but I primarily play the piano and have no formal training in it at all.  I learned to play by ear. 

I prefer to write melancholy over frolicking pop.  Despite this, I consider myself a chipper person most of the time. 

Some of my favorite artists are: Elton John, Ben Folds, Sufjan Stevens, Diana Krall, Sarah McLachlan, Rufus Wainwright, Joni Mitchell…. 

Obviously I have a type :).
