Lucifer's Lament by Parousia recorded Live at Uncle Sam's Nightclub on Walden Ave in Buffalo NY (Cheektowaga, technically) on September 3, 1981.  Parousia's performance was broadcast live on WGRQ 97 Rock.

Recorded 1986 at Mark Studios, Buffalo NY.  Parousia explores musical textures mixing acoustic guitar, electric guitars and keyboard in a bold chord progression that builds and expands upon each verse and chorus, overlaid by a haunting melody.  

Turnaround

MissOgyny appeared on the "Buffalo Rocks Volume 1" album,  released in 1981, courtesy of WGRQ 97 Rock.  Due to the formatting requirements and short notice, Parousia was forced to re-record the song in the middle of the night to make it onto the album, so this is not the best version of this song, but it is the only Parousia track to ever make it to vinyl.

Miss Ogyny (Album Version)

Parousia resurrects Miss Ogyny for the 97 Rock live radio broadcast from Uncle Sam's nightclub on September 3, 1981.

We had stopped performing the song after Kim Watts left the band (being her song, more or less), but since it appeared on the 97 Rock "Buffalo Rocks" album, we were kind of obliged to play it at this show.  Patt takes over lead vocals for this version.

Ok, Parousia didn't write this one, we borrowed it from some little known band out of England (The Who?), but we played it like it was our own.

We couldn't afford one of them high falutin' fancy pants sequencers, so we made our poor keyboardist, Eric Scheda, play it all live in real time.  We always had lots of fun with this one, and it sounds like the audience did too!

Parousia covering Max Webster's "Toronto Tontos" live at the Plant 6 on 9/5/81.

Not always our most popular cover amongst the "party crowd," nonetheless we and our most devoted fans were huge fans of Max Webster and we loved the chance to do one of their songs.  Of course, we chose the most silly one.

Still listening to lots of Max Webster today, one of the great under recognized bands of that period.

Toronto Tontos

Parousia covering Hocus Pocus by Focus at the Plant 6 in Kenmore NY circa 1981.

We loved performing this song, and enjoyed the challenge of reproducing the many sounds found in it.  Patt Connolly did a great job on the vocals and flute, and Eric Scheda (and before him, Dave Maltbie) an awesome job on keyboards.  And of course, I got to stretch out on the guitar.  And Gerry Cannizzaro on the drums.  Actually, everyone, including Barry Cannizzaro on guitar and Bob Lowden on the bass, had to take their game up a notch for this one.

Mary's Gone is an emotionally charged ballad written by Robert Stuart Lowden.

Not your average bar band, Parousia performs Alice Cooper's Second Coming / Ballad of Dwight Fry, including theatrics, at Melanie's Pub in Williamsville NY on October 12, 1980.

A lot of work putting the parts together, but a hell of a lot of fun to play once we got it down.

These were the kind of songs that confounded the booking agents, but if they heard the crowd at the end, they'd understand that every band doesn't have to play the same tired songs if the performance is strong enough.

The original Parousia hailed from Western New York in the late 70's and blazed a trail of progressive pop rock well into the 80's.  From the 7 member rock show to the scaled down 4 piece group, Parousia was known for their over the top theatrics and experimental blending of multimedia, art and music.  Covering anything from progressive to punk and everything in between, the range of dynamic personalities in the band resulted in music that was difficult to define.  Parousia refused to be pigeon-holed into any particular brand of rock.
