25-year-old South African Electronic producer D_Know has an undying passion for global music culture. Whether it is producing, DJing or writing, his dedication to the arts is ever growing. 

Having been named in the Top 5 of MyCityByNight’s Top Electronic Acts Under 25 Chart in May 2017, D_Know has since gone from strength to strength this year.

From a headline slot at Rocking The Daisies, to hosting Knowledge Recording nights with Berghain resident DVS1 joining him on the decks, to various gigs and festivals in and around South Africa it is clear his reputation has grown leaps and bounds.

A heavy release schedule on his own label has added to other releases on Ground Factory, Shaping Music and the forthcoming compilation on Do Work Records.

Previous releases on S-File’s GND Records, Italian label ARTS Records, the UK’s East Recordings, Australian label Translucent, Swiss label !Organsim, Teknotribe and the aforementioned Do Work Records have all led to D_Know’s profile rising substantially both in South Africa and abroad.

Support from the likes of Sam Paganini, Joseph Capriati, Niereich, Unbalance, Paco Osuna, Turbo Turbo, S_File, Cari Lekebusch, Skober and Heron has also contributed to his progression.

“In terms of releases, I’m really proud to have had material come out on two of my favourite techno labels in GND and ARTS. Both played a big role in the development of my sound over the years. I’m also very happy to be connected to some great labels in the UK & Europe which is opening up new doors too!”

At the same time he has been honing his writing skills writing reports on Dekmantel and Loveland in Amsterdam and CTEMF in Cape Town, and is now a writer for Soundspace in the UK.

As a DJ he is resident at Overtime and Vault and also a firm favourtie at clubs and parties such as Fiction, Mødular, Era, ToyToy and Spilt Milk. D_Know is one of the most in demand DJs in the Techno scene in South Africa and can often be seen mixing up his deck skills with live use of drum machines and effects. 

He has appeared on South African national station 5FM, Radio FM4 in Austria, and other stations on a worldwide basis. 

“I’m glad to say that I have met some great people abroad who are just as passionate about music as I am. In Austria I had the opportunity to play my first international gig and had a feature on their national radio station, which was a great privilege! I felt nothing but support from those around me, and I am excited to see what the future holds.”

Techno Scene Podcast #69 - Rikert D

Italian-born producer Dino Sabatini is an artist whose strong body of work has helped to develop his local scene, and redefine what it means to work with electronic music in the 21st century

though his sounds are completely modern, synthesized and rendered with crystal clear production, he continues to tend the deep roots of lost wisdom and mythology that have sustained human creativity for millenia. The name of his personal label Outis, for example, is taken from none other than Homer's Odyssey (OYTIΣ, literally meaning "no one," was the pseudonym that Odysseus used to succeed in his infamous deception of the cyclops Polyphemus). This choice of name is not just a clever title for Sabatini's label, but is a very good indicator of his own character: working within the anonymous electric wilderness of techno, Sabatini continually goes beyond expectations by bringing the senses back into this world of automation and machines,, occasionally invoking the names of the old gods (Poseidon) or goddesses / muses (Mnemosyne) along the way.

Along with the work released on the Outis label, Sabatini has been a reliable fixture on labels like Stroboscopic Artefacts, Elettronica Romana (home to several releases by his 'Modern Heads' duo with Gianluca Meloni), Adam X's Sonic Groove, and Prologue. Listeners familiar with these labels' respective approaches will understand the kind of versatility it takes to record for each one without sacrificing one's 'trademark' sound in the process. In just the past few years, Sabatini has issued sonic statements characterized by sensations of pulsating darkness (2011's Small steps EP on Sonic Groove), by intense and penetrating hypnotic effects (both the critically acclaimed Daughters of Phorcys EPs on Prologue, 2010), and of course by the cinematic full-length adventure Shaman's Path (also on Prologue, 2012). The latter, a fully developed concept album dedicated to those musically gifted guides who take us beyond objective reality into more mysterious realms, is as diverse in its sonic details as the rainforest is in biological forms, weaving a many-colored tapestry of sound around its patient, insistent trance rhythms. Not content with even this high level of inspired eclecticism, Sabatini's new Omonimo LP shows he is capable of sublime romance, featuring graceful collaborations with jazz pianist Antonello Salis.

Speaking of collaborations, Sabatini's quest for a world without self-imposed creative limitations has earned him an impressive number of alliances: again, the Modern Heads team has helped to expand the vocabulary of international techno, as have his production pairings and remixes involving artists such as Claudio PRC, Donato Dozzy, Giorgio Gigli, Shapednoise, Edit Select and Teste. When it's all pieced together, Sabatini's still evolving career is like Mircea Eliade's description of the shaman's music: "narrat[ing] ecstatic journeys to the sky and dangerous descents to the underworld" - and bringing back something meaningful and lasting from both.

Audiogamer - (Alexander Petriashvili) Musician and producer since 2013, though his musical journey hasn't started in 2013, he still works on several different projects and composes music from early childhood, entirely independent artist who will not exchange the comfort of dark underground for anything.
The unique style of Alexander is expressed with his soul rebeling music, his sound agressively penetrates the minds of the listeners and forces them to question the strength of their foundations. Any listener will understand how intelectual his compositions are, because Alexander doesn't create music for the listener, heavy techno is his way of expressing his ideas and levels of his evolution and the listener is just as independent as he is, audience has to decide for themselves if they want to join the journey and find something new about themselves or to just listen to good quality music.

No nonsense, just techno. A dj in a producers age.

Instead of writing a biography filled with meaningless quotes and a generic ‘played at’ or ‘shared line-up with’ timeline, here is a no nonsense description of what I’m about.

A fitting short version would be a deejay in a producers age. The main focus will always be deejaying, entertaining, getting kicks out of being in control of an audience waiting for your next trick, track or move. Doesn’t matter if it's warming up, performing at peak time or closing… the challenge is to own that moment and to make it fit in the musical trip people are taking that night.

This is the challenge I live for, this drives and motivates me.

My passion for music in general is the best foundation to keep that drive going. Crate digging (digital or analog) continuously to find that one track that nobody knows, to play at the right moment to create the right vibe. The versatility of techno and the freedom that you have when playing make it easy to keep sparking that passion for the genre, reliving the moment when I myself experienced it all for the first time when I started going out. The mystery that surrounds a dj is something I want to keep alive, you need to pay attention and experience the moment instead of using Shazam or taking selfies.

Whether it’s vinyl or digital, old or new, raw or deep and hypnotic - finding that right combination of tracks to create a fulfilling set for both the crowd and myself is the most rewarding. Using extra samples, effects and 3 deck mixing to get the energy for that moment right and tell your story. As Dave Clarke put it to words back in 2008, words I have cherished till this day: ‘double u jay’s mix told a story and was a cross-section of multiple subgenres of techno, he deserves to play’.

Over the last years it has become clear to me that the art of deejaying and having a certain skill set has become secondary to having releases and strong marketing. For me, it’s not about playing more but about playing better, making sure that every set makes sense and brings value to the crowd and also to the organiser that had a vision and experience in mind when the concept was created.

Their choice to book me means they trust me with the challenge I mentioned earlier and for this I am and always will be truly grateful.

​Tasman is a DJ and producer from Vilnius, Lithuania. His techno career began when he started playing vinyl for his friends, like many other young DJs.
But his endless appetite and hard work led him to play gigs across London. In 2016, Tasman crossed paths with and emergent techno collective, Structure, and quickly became one of their residents. This residency allowed him to rise and blossom as a DJ, playing sets in well-known clubs such as Corsica Studios, allowing him to experience his productions on bigger sound systems in front of a discerning public.
Throughout the years, Tasman refined his style and became proficient in his preferred driving and rolling techno style, with inspiration coming from masters of the genre, including James Ruskin, DVS1, Blawan and Dax J.
