During my time living in New Zealand, I was fortunate to begin learning te reo Māori and to hear the ancient legends that carry the mana of Aotearoa. One story that stayed with me was the voyage of Nukutawhiti, Kupe’s descendant, who brought the great waka Ngātokimatawhaorua into the Hokianga Harbour, guided by the guardian rocks known as Ngā Kurī a Kupe. This song is my tribute to that journey, to the strength of the ancestors, and to the enduring spirit of the Māori people.

Across Australia, each People and each Country have their own name and story for this great being, from Ngalyod in Arnhem Land to Wagyl in the south-west, Akurra in the Flinders Ranges, and Goorialla in Queensland.

This song is not a retelling of those sacred stories, but a tribute to their diversity, their beauty, and their importance. It is a reminder that these stories belong to the Custodians of Country and the Elders, past and present, whose voices carry them forward through the generations. I’ve always loved music and had a desire to write songs but couldn’t piece it all together or had anyone to collaborate with. 
Agree or disagree technology has now given me the tools to express my self and my ideas through music. 
I’d love one day for someone to actually record one of my songs. 
But for now I’m enjoying sharing my ideas through music through this medium. 
I hope you enjoy my songs albeit that they are not produced in the “traditional” way but they are original.
