The whole setting of the Spy Club is quite impressive. With the disco lite music being continuously played, the various Armani suits and Chanel jackets fit in naturally with the atmosphere. Jeans aren’t normally preferred unless worn with alligator boots and pinky rings. Such aura makes the Spy Club resemble Au Bar the most without losing its own flavor. Even the photo of Jackie Kennedy hanging in the front hall fits right into the scene. As the night progresses, the dance floor gets crowded, with people waiting even in the street corner in lines. Outside, there is no shortage of beautiful people who are out to enjoy the night, sipping cocktails at the Notte Luna.

If, on the other hand, you are looking for a more authentic New York style disco, the Fifth Column is where you need to be. Interestingly enough, the club was once a former bank vault. Visitors may still find the word “Equitable” carved on the doorway. However, the gray flannel is removed, thank goodness. The Fifth Column has multi-colored Klieg lights, three levels of dance floor, and astonishingly big speakers. Naturally, visitors to the Fifth Column belong to a younger, more stylish crowd. The techno dance music from the speakers will be irresistible and clubgoers are soon in its sway. Although the chairs are few and far between, the ample size of the dance floor more than makes up for it. However, there are also private and well-lit rooms where you can take a moment to yourself and get away from the hustle.

On both sides of the Fifth Column, you will find a hip crown of mixed races and ages, most of them being black, Hispanic, and Asians, all enjoying themselves at the Ritz and the Vault. The Ritz attracts all those who want to dance their hearts out but don’t know where to do it. The five dance floors of Fifth Column have their own distinct beats and rhythms: Top 40, live jazz, progressive R&B, reggae, and soca. However, The Vault, having just one dance floor, is popular with a crowd even younger than that of the Fifth Column.

“This is a pretty good club – for Washington,” said New Yorker Devin Mahony, who had come with three of his friends. “Usually when I used to come here, it was always a frustrating experience. There wasn’t any place to hang out here late at night. For fun, you just had to turn up the stereo.”

Spy Club partners wanted to make sure they were catering to their visitors’ comfort, which is why they deliberately stopped taking reservations once the number of RSVPs crossed 900.

“We just didn’t want to create a scene where you stand in line and get picked,” said Gary Pryor, one of the club’s partners. “At the Spy Club, you get invited.”

Gary Pryor is a Sr. Business Consultant with Waters Business Consulting. Gary is the former Founder & CEO of FuturePay Holdings Inc., a merchant focused consumer finance company (www.futurepay.com). His specialization in mergers, acquisitions and corporate finance commenced in New York with Merrill Lynch International and the Morgan Guaranty Trust Company of New York (JP Morgan). 

Gary is well known throughout the food industry as one of the founders of the "Home Meal Replacement" industry. He was recruited by Arizona based Circle K Stores Inc., to manage a 217 store fresh food program and develop a hybrid specialty foods store named Emily's Market. Following his tenure with Circle K, Pryor joined Hunter Wise Financial Group, a California based investment banking firm, where he specialized in buy-side representations for private equity groups. While at Hunter Wise, Pryor led the US acquisition of Smith & Wesson from London based Tomkins, PLC. 

Following his tenure at Hunter Wise, Mr. Pryor became a Merchant Banker and acquired and sold several food related businesses including two USDA certified food manufacturing companies as well as multiple restaurants throughout the United States. 

Mr. Pryor received a BA in Political Science from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY, where he played Soccer and served as the Student Delegate to the Board of Trustees. His interests include Hiking, Skiing, Squash, Golf, and Travel. 

As a business consultant, Mr. Pryor now specializes in consolidation strategy and pre-exit business growth strategies.
