Look the bottom line is that Ello raised venture capital. The investors are looking for a return on their investment, so they're going to have to figure out a business model. So the question becomes, if they're not going to sell your info to advertisers, are they going to charge a fee to use the service? Now look they may come up with something totally new and innovative, and God bless Ello if they do. I'm rooting for everybody all the time.

My big thing is that **people don't care if you're selling their data**. We actually want targeted ads. When I'm in the market for another pair of Nikes, I WANT to see ads for them. Now there are those of you who disagree, but the data shows it. We'll take them when they go from ads to content. 

So here's the thing:

1. I think the way Ello is financially structured has vulnerabilities.
2. This has happened before with things like Diaspora. It didn't work.
3. I'm not in love with the actual product, but I'm glad they're moving and innovating.

I'm not Nostradamus. I like to make my call when I actually see something happening, and so I think it's too early to say that, but my intuition says they're going to eventually charge, which is going to turn a lot of users off.

People will pay for anything...if they perceive it has value. If there was an #AskGaryVee Show in 1967 and I got a question like this, I'd say something like "Hey groovy cats, it's the AskGaryVee Show. Dawn, your question is like asking if people will pay for water. No way!" That would be the WRONG answer. What happened was that Poland Springs, and probably a lot of brands before Poland Springs, came along and convinced people that bottled water had value. Here's a fun weekend activity: go ask your grandparents what they thought about the idea of people paying for water. 

In fact, think about how you feel. A $4 bottle of water in an airport? We've all done it. It's an absolute brain twist.

So yes, people will pay for answers from experts on live streaming apps. Even though you can watch now for free, people will stay end up paying down the road.

Now the question is: are you good enough to charge people? Have you built up equity? Have you put in the WORK?

And more importantly, how many people have built up that presence and have the charisma and ability to charge per answer. 

The people that have pulled it off have had to be in an interesting part of their career, or they really enjoyed it. I love Q&As so much that I do this show for me. Do you have the chops to make it happen for you?

NY state of mind

Today’s episode is an all-time clip. I don’t know if there is a more powerful clip that I’ve ever put out and I hope you can sit down and really let this soak in. Please understand that your negative outlook on life is coming from a place of fear that was instilled in you. For everybody that is "scared" and "fear-based", don't see it as a negative reflection of yourself. You’re not bad, you are just hurt and need to understand that those are other people's thoughts being out in your head. Enjoy! Let me know what you think.
