À l’occasion du lancement du label Polën en Octobre dernier nous avons invité Edouard Lambert (Periscope/Hatch), Léa Thirion (Azurite Sun/Écoutes Périphériques) et Camille Rhonat (Superspectives) à venir nous partager leur vision de la musique ambient.

Une heure de table ronde animée à l’étage du tiers lieux Boomrang pendant laquelle nous avons tenté de défricher les grands thèmes de la musique ambient et questionner les idées reçues concernant cette école de la musique aux frontières très vagues.

Mariachiara Troianiello, the Italian sound artist behind the moniker Katatonic Silentio, works at the crossroads of electronic music, performing arts and sound studies. Active as a DJ for more than 15 years, her sets adopt multiple forms, fluctuating between an analogue past and a technological, fast-paced future. At times, her sets focus on pure abstraction, consisting of ethereal soundscapes that seek to transcend the tangible through a mix of musique concrète, world, spoken word, ambient or dub. At others, they come across as concrete and club-oriented, crossing techno, broken beats or drum'n'bass.

For MNMT 457, Katatonic Silentio presents this exceptional mix that intricately evolves with subtle and nuanced layers into a delicate yet mind-bending trip of unconventional rhythms and textures. Float into the depths now.

This mix was conceived as a soundtrack, a story that unfolds through textures and atmospheres. An imaginary crossing of the desert, somewhere in the heart of the Sahara, where sounds melt into immensity and suspended time. Between rhythms and ambient tracks, each piece becomes a landmark, a breath, a mirage.

Uman Yazar guides us through this moving space, playing on the contrasts between percussive flights and suspended silences, a breathing, an oscillation that transforms listening into a veritable emotional voyage. A universe to explore, echoing his “Unsur” EP, available for pre-order on our label.

Amsterdam’s Ratherlost crew has spent the past few years perfecting the art of the marathon rave. Their home base is Lofi, a cavernous warehouse where sound, light, and visuals fuse into long-haul journeys that stretch well past the 18-hour mark. But epic runtimes mean nothing without the right hands at the controls, and Ratherlost has proven it knows how to curate, pace, and execute like pros.

Lofi’s two-floor setup allows for shifting moods: daylight hours wander through deep, dubby techno, slowly morphing into faster, syncopated rhythms as night tightens its grip. Pacing is everything in a space like this. And when it comes to the craft of pacing, few do it better than Bas Dobbelaer.

Bas is one of our favorite DJs for a reason. He understands that a warm-up set is an architecture rather than just background noise. It shapes the room, sets the tone, and welcomes dancers into the story. The mix we’re thrilled to share today was recorded live at Ratherlost’s Easter Sunday session at Lofi, where Bas shared the bill with artists like Aaron J, Na Nich & Vera Logdanidi, Aurora Halal, DVS1, upsammy, Occa, Agonis, Dasha Rush, Seb H, and Oscar Mulero. Quite the roster.

In the face of that stacked lineup, Bas delivered a masterclass in restraint and elegance. His three-hour set unfolds like a novel, tracing dub techno’s DNA across the past two decades. The vibe is timeless, spacious, and beautifully measured, a perfect example of how to warm up a warehouse without blowing the doors off too soon.
