I actually still haven't met FOZSA. I discovered his song Talk Less on the YouTube channel nourish a while back and it straight away became one of my favourite tracks. The way he approached songwriting within electronic music, his use of textures, and how he turned organic sounds into robotic ones and vice versa was super inspiring: he seemed to have found some answers I was still looking for in my own music. So I sent him a message on Instagram, as a fan really. Eventually, I sent him some drums and some uke I recorded on a very old cassette dictaphone. We then spent 6 months getting to know each other through a musical back and forth, building both a song and a friendship. I think we were both trying to surprise the other with what we'd write, which made for a collage aesthetic in the song, with lots of dynamic. Lyrically, Lie Low explores intimacy, echoing the warm-sounding production. Hope you like it! Much love, g

I met Taura at university, played in her band and always admired her voice and writing. We wrote Fragments at the beginning of the summer, a year or two ago. Funnily, we re-wrote the song three times and the final version is the one we came up with during our very first session. I had a lot of fun with the production on this one. I wanted to mix electronics with actual orchestral instruments, as opposed to MIDI. I chopped a harp recording and then played the cello and the violin myself - I played so poorly I had to isolate the right notes and trigger them from my computer, but still, it counts! I also recorded a grand piano and Fender Rhodes. My friend Antony Burkhard came in to record an amazing clarinet part that builds up to the chorus. Lyrically, Fragments is about moments that turn into memories, and memories that fade away. I was coming out of three-year long relationship, and the part in Spanish is actually my ex-girlfriend reading one of her poems.

2021 saw Gaspar Narby broadening his off-kilter electronica into a broader artistic style as an introspective singer-songwriter. The first two products of that evolution - ‘Death & Other Things’ and ‘So Bored’ - resulted in fresh critical acclaim as he was praised by The Line of Best Fit (On The Rise) and Wonderland (New Noise). Now the 25-year-old Swiss artist shares his brand new EP ‘Magnet Letters’, released on Everybody’s Records.

Gaspar took a fresh approach when working on the ‘Magnet Letters’ EP. For the first time, he wrote most of the material on guitar before then applying his production ideas to the songs. It was a method that made him feel as if he was a producer working on songs by another artist. Just as importantly, he decided to push himself out of his comfort zone by singing everything on the EP rather than collaborating with other artists. The entire project was written, recorded, produced and mixed by Gaspar in his home studio in south London.

Gaspar adds, “I think the process was about making myself uncomfortable: the lyrics are about the parts of myself that I’m scared of, from my need to feel seen (Attention), and my fear of growing old and dying (‘Death & Other Things’), to the occasional absurdity of existence (‘So Bored’) and how bad I can be at communicating my feelings (‘Magnet Letters’).” Singing in itself took me out of my comfort zone. A few years ago, I had a bad experience with a singing teacher who said that my voice wasn’t good enough. With this EP, I guess I’m hoping to prove them wrong.”
