"On IPOP, Organic Analogue uncover a hidden gem of dubbed-out electronica and fried-circuit techno from deep in the late-00s Manchester underground.

Beppu is the work of Andrew Hargreaves, and IPOP gathers together three EPs he put out in 2009 in limited runs of 50 CDrs. At the time, CDrs were the format of choice for DIY electronic music. The lo-fi resurgence of tape was a way off, and CDs offered maximum fidelity at a minimum cost. Beppu is emblematic of that era and the nascent democratisation of music distribution, when technology meant you could do the entire process from creation to delivery yourself. Dubby, outsider electronica especially found a home amongst this network of independent operators, where similarly spirited artists like Pub and Remote_ capitalised on the format to put out their insular techno-not-techno.

You can practically run your fingers over the grainy textural influence of Moritz von Oswald and Mark Ernestus in the blown out pads and tones that shape out the space around Beppu, but Hargreaves was making something far less derivative than what we generally think of as 'dub techno'. You might find a tweaked acid line or warbling 101 adding a braindance tweak to 'Speed Tolerance' or catch a hint of Jan Jelinek's strung out micro-loop reveries on 'Consumption'. There are no straight-forward formulae being adhered to — the staunch independence of Beppu's circumstances rings true in the seductive sonic silt that swirls around these mixes. Comfortably ahead of the trendy distortion boom of the 2010s, Hargreaves elicited an evocative kind of noise from his mixes that becomes an emotional layer within the music.

These are mixes which delight in pushing frequencies the 'wrong' way, respectfully guided to a final form by the careful hands of Hargreaves' long-time mate Miles Whittaker of Demdike Stare on mastering duties. Alongside his work on the mastering, Whittaker and Sean Canty took to Hargreaves' source material to create two Demdike versions that round out the album's fourth side with their much-celebrated verve and leftfield swagger.

Scuffed and soulful, wrenched from unknown zones and rooted in the craft, IPOP is everything OA lives and breathes. In line with past archival digs with DJ Guy and Jean-Louis Huhta, we're proud to help shine a light on the lesser-known talent of Beppu and give these incredible sonics the pressing they deserve"

Ed DMX aka DMX Krew is a UK based artist, where he makes music and runs his labels Breakin’ Records and Fresh Up.

The first DMX Krew release was 1995′s “Got You On My Mind” on Dutch label DAP, and this was followed in 1996 by “Sound Of The Street” on Aphex Twin’s label Rephlex. This record hinted at what was to come with its mix of instrumental electro, synthpop and techno made on vintage equipment. Lots more releases have followed, mainly through Rephlex but also on diverse labels including International Deejay Gigolos, Power Vacuum, Sonic Groove and many others. DMX Krew remixes have also appeared of various artists including M.I.A., Man Parrish, James T Cotton, and many others.

In 1997 Ed DMX started his label Breakin’ Records which gained a cult following as one of the UK’s first electro and bass labels with many releases from DMX Krew under various aliases, as well as first signings Bass Junkie and Mandroid. Later Breakin’ broke new ground with the signing and debut release of acid maestro Ceephax Acid Crew.

DMX Krew tracks released on Rephlex under the umbrella of “The Collapse Of The Wave Function” reveal a deeper, more considered side to his production, featuring ambient and experimental tracks as well as quirkier dancefloor fillers, and this vibe has continued into releases for Rephlex, Breakin’ and other labels including the 2014 album ‘Shape Shifting Shaman’ for Shipwrec.

A more recent release is his album “Party Life”. This album was released at the beginning of 2022. It houses 7 new songs and even two dub mixes.

Yborn is a DJ and emerging producer based in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Since 2020, she has been carving out her own sonic space at the intersection of electro, breaks, EBM, and new wave. James Shinra is a well-respected figure in the European electronic music scene, known for his intricate blend of electro, braindance, breakbeat and acid. Gaining recognition with his 2015 Ball & Chain EP on Null+Void and a follow-up remix and solo release on Bicep’s Feel My Bicep label, he went on to release acclaimed EPs and his debut album Vital Heat across key imprints like Analogical Force, Craigie Knowes and 20/20 Vision. Recent years have seen a return to club-ready sounds, with standout releases on We’re Going Deep and the launch of his own imprint Shinra Electro Company, earning DJ support from Bicep at Coachella. His second album Meteorites dropped in 2025, and he continues to perform dynamic DJ and live sets across Europe, with past highlights including Houghton Festival and Warehouse Project.

Galaxian has made a crucial contribution to modern electronic music in the 21st century, de- constructing & turning it on it's head while making bold strides into unexplored territories. Often recognised as a pioneer & innovator, his inventiveness is only surpassed by his ability to mine consistently new seams of sound, rhythms and intricate arrangements. 

More than a decade of authoritative releases on world-class labels & counting Aphex Twin, Mary Anne Hobbs, Helena Hauff & DJ Stingray among admirers, the latter being sometime collaborators. Notable live & DJ sets played worldwide at Boiler Room, Dekmantel, Resident Advisor and key releases on Tresor, BPitch, Ilian Tape, Return to Disorder, Micron Audio and many others & featured in a number of BBC Essential Mixes, BBC Radio 1 + BBC Radio 6 Mary Anne Hobbs. 

Beginning his journey behind the decks long before stepping into production, DJ sets display a reflect a deep well of knowledge and experience. Stylistically mixing style is rooted in a classic old-school approach, completely contemporary in track choices, techniques and performance. Sets are tightly woven, dynamic, incendiary, evocative. 

With recent releases on BPitch and Herrensauna, Galaxian - along with his alter ego Naix - continues to reaffirm his reputation for crafting unconventional yet essential electronic music that resonates in the 21st century and beyond. 

With such an intense output of 5 albums in 3 years it was time to take a long earned rest and consider new sonic avenues, developing new ideas and adopting different sound palettes and production techniques. During this extended period there has been a lot of evolution and shift for the Galaxian and Naix sounds resulting in dozens of new tracks and a few albums worth of material. 

In 2025 Galaxian turned his attention to the sample library world, launching a new platform called Wavkore in late March 2025. Designed to give producers fresh creative possibilities, it offers access to his signature sounds, a curated artist series, and plenty more developments on the horizon.

Elektroliza is a series of club events formed by a group of dedicated electronic music enthusiasts in Ljubljana's club Channel Zero at autonomous social centre Metelkova in 2006.

Filling a void in Slovenia’s electronic dance scene, the night was a hit from the start and quickly grew into a diverse and successful series focusing on new and exciting electro, acid and dark techno.

Elektroliza hosted many memorable DJ and live acts by performers/producers/pioneers coming out of international music incubators in Gothenburg, The Hague, Berlin and as far as Detroit. Even more importantly, it brought together producers and crews from the former Yugoslav republics of Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Macedonia. Inside the former Yugoslavian military barracks, a new friendship was born. DJs and producers from Skopje to Ljubljana began new collaborations while dancing the night away in »Electro City Ljubljana«.

This first double vinyl compilation of the Balkan Elektroliza family is a collection of our shared memories and visions of the future to come.

DJ Xed - Inner Contact

For our next premiere for @DarkScienceElectro we take a listen to a track from the debut album by @TerensK on @LesDisquesCockpit. This relative newcomer produces primarily with Roland gear yet also loves Novation for his efforts. He discovered Electronic music through the mid to late 90s Big Beat rave culture like The Crystal Method, Chemical Brothers and The Prodigy. Terens K. is more of a shadowy psychonautic figure in his approach to making dark Electro music and this is clearly conveyed in the music he produces. He draws influence from Daniel Miller’s @The-Normal as well as Electro darlings Drexciya. “A journey into the mind” is quite literally his intention with the recordings. The concept that they aren’t exactly thought-out, but they are representative fragments of memories or dreams that were documented though the playing and recording of a track while being an 'Altered State' mentally.

The track selected by @DVSNME to premiere is the track ‘Relativity’. This spacious track is the third of 6 tracks on the album and delivers some serious haunted mansion vibes with it. The driving stop-and-go bassline paired with zappy percussive traits makes this song an absolute standout. Menacing pads loom over the track during its five and a half minute run while short synth stabs and synth-flourishes mix things up in the latter half of the production. This entire release is worth picking up if you are fans of the sound currently being produced by artists like @Das-Muster, @FedericoLeocata or the classic sound of Dopplereffekt or @Kobol-Electronics. For the second release on Gated, Maltese musician Sound Synthesis takes us on an emotive electro journey.

The A-side, though, is all about the floor. It kicks off with the atmospheric bass-driven Jupiter Bazz, before taking a decidedly Kraftwerkian turn with the EP’s title track, Xjenza Eletronika.

Flip to the B for three deeper, emotional cuts, with Traveller’s melodic intentions apparent from the off.

Waiting Rooms continues the deepness, before the EP is rounded out with a little snifter of positivity on How It Feels.

The EP’s digital-only bonus track Immersive Rhythms should need little introduction, the title giving the game away somewhat, but a sneaky little acid line works its magic in this spacey and, yes, immersive track.

Sound Synthesis is the moniker of Malta’s Keith Farrugia, who has been releasing music since his 2009 debut on Paul Blackford’s Militant Science label. Sound Synthesis is his melodic bass-driven electro project.
