With releases on Crosstown Rebels, Hot Creations and BPitch Control, it's safe to say Venezuelan-originating, Barcelona-based duo Fur Coat are backed by some real key players.

Last year's 'There's No Time' EP on Jamie Jones and Lee Foss' HC was a proper smash, with the title track a certainty to mess with your mind. That followed the 'U Turn' EP on Damian Lazarus' Crosstown, a tasty four-tracker of sizzling grooves.

Soon they make their debut for Balance, mixing the 'Balance presents Fur Coat' compilation featuring cuts by DJ Koze, Francesca Lombardo, Roman Flügel and a couple from themselves.

Tom Demac emerged midway through the new millennium as a producer and DJ whose ability to straddle various genres and styles with ease have been evident in a colourful and bustling production CV. Their own label, built with no creative boundaries, Radau is a playground where the Berlin quartet remove all limits and expectations and dig deep into the mindset and experimentalism that united them in the first place. 'Frequent Tendencies' sets the scene perfectly. A loosely hewn sliver of emotion constructed just a smidgeon off grid, there's a natural momentum as we're thrust deep inside a vociferous synth hook that rises unapologetically, gradually taking us to a surprise pivot. From here the articulation switches, a whole layer of weight and emphasis on the riff opens up and your crowd won't just elevate, they'll levitate. With plenty more music due on both Radau and beyond, it seems GHEIST's impeccable acceleration over the last two years will continue for a long time to come.

'Plaisirs Sonores Records end a fantastic year on a high with the 'Sky Mirage' EP from Dutch producer, Budakid, alongside two great remixes from Armen Miran and label-boss Hicky & Kalo.

The original track by Budakid exploits the dreamy side of the artist's aesthetic. A walk through a landscape of lush textures and poetic melodic elements.

The in-demand Armen Miran steps up on remix duties, a man always on top of his game. His remix grabs your attention from the off with its tight bassline and vibrant clap fills, giving his re-creation a classic deep house feel. The track delivers a subtle expansion of the original sounds, whilst locking you under its magical spell.

Closing out the EP, Hicky & Kalo finds a beautiful opportunity to exploit the melancholic side of the track with a dive into the deepness of its soul. The rapidly thriving onedotsixtwo label launches its 2020 campaign with yet another essential release, this time from the multitasking main man himself, Tripswitch, who has masterminded an incredible refreshing of his classic ‘Box Fresh’ track, having enlisted the studio skills of Emi Galván, Forerunners and Nicolas Rada, alongside him on remix duty.

“‘Box Fresh’ was a really significant track for me when it first came out on the ‘Propulsion EP’ in 2014. It was one of the first progressive tracks I wrote where I felt I’d successfully struck the right formula between my own production style, which was more rooted in epic, euphoric chillout, and an up-to-date progressive house sound.” - Tripswitch

The original track’s significance (represented by the 2020 Remaster in this new package) grew exponentially when it became one of the first Tripswitch tracks (after his remix of Seamless ‘Castle In the Sky’ on Section Records) that Nick Warren and Hernan Cattaneo really hammered in their sets and was thus pivotal in establishing Tripswitch on the progressive path, ultimately leading to the birth of onedotsixtwo. 

With an ethos to seek out and feature the finest world-class talent within the underground progressive house scene, Tripswitch has teamed up with rising Argentinian superstar Nicolas Rada (who is making a huge impression on the scene right now) to open proceedings. This creative dream team’s ability to tease out the essential original mind-blowing beauty of ‘Box Fresh’ with their deeply delicious 2020 ReFresh is quite astonishing. By composing a magnificently subtle, tantalizing, soaring, new melodic masterpiece, they set the stage perfectly for this truly outstanding remix package.

Another Buenos Aires resident, the exceptionally multi-talented Emi Galván, brings his own unique vision to ‘Box Fresh’. Emi has earned a reputation as a kind of crown prince of uplifting electronic music and here he injects his infectious blend of bounce and funk to proceedings to launch the track to a higher level of energetic abandonment, juxtaposing irresistible melodic hooks with euphoric percussive flourishes to create an absolutely monstrous dancefloor experience. Emi’s remix has already been cited by Nick Warren as one of the biggest tracks of his DJ sets.

Arizona USA’s Brenden LaBonte (aka Forerunners) makes a welcome return to onedotsixtwo with his outstanding remix. A sophisticated interwoven blend of skippy percussion, meandering bassline groove and lush layers of hypnotic melody, create a marvellous drifting sea of tranquil beauty. PREMIERE: Tripswitch - Box Fresh (Emi Galvan Remix) [onedotsixtwo]

Back again after the monstrous Amelthea’s Horn EPs back in 2018 is Alex O’Rion with an exceptional 4-track EP.    

After a strong year of releases on Hope, Replug, ICONYC and more, Alex returns to Sudbeat with ‘Alone’. The lead track is a strong tribal progger with his incredible sound design and attention to detail. Building a head of steam over the opening section, the break is like an oasis from the storm, drawing you deeper into Alex’ web.   

‘Mastadon’ takes off from where ‘Alone’ ends. Punchier drums and a more insistent melodic core drive the track forward, opening the listener up to all manner of mental visuals. The dub mix of ‘Mastadon’ is an altogether different beast. Darker, deeper and more devastating. The bassline leads the way, grinding out a well worn path from the waist down. Finally, ‘With You’ offers some light relief with upbeat drums, uplifting pads and playful melodics.
