This symphony was actually quite accidental. I thought it would be better to leave big works like symphonies for when I'd be a little older. I wrote the second movement (rondo) without thinking about it being in a symphony. Then wrote another orchestral piece (first movement) and realized the rondo would fit it. I was sometimes thinking about WW2 and the tragic subject of war in general when composing it, especially the fourth movement.
