New Order - True Faith '94 [Instr. Cover]

This is my cover version of Gold's 1984 hit single 'Plus Près des Étoiles', from their album 'Le Train de mes Souvenirs'. It was written by Jacques Cardona, Joël Garcia and  and François Porterie. My version was sequenced and recorded in Studio One and was performed on a Roland Jupiter-X synthesizer, a Fender Stratocaster electric guitar and a Stagg electro-acoustic guitar.

Gold - Plus Près des Étoiles [Instr. Cover]

This is a hastily-created instrumental cover version of Alizée's 2000 hit 'Moi Lolita', from her 2001 album 'Gourmandises'. It was made for a friend. The song was written by Laurent Boutonnat and Mylène Farmer. My version was sequenced and recorded in Studio One and performed on a Roland Jupiter-X synthesizer.

This is my instrumental cover of Gérard Blanc's 1988 hit single 'Du Soleil Dans La Nuit', from his album 'Ailleurs Pour Un Ailleurs' (EMI France). It was composed by Gérard Blanc with lyrics by Marc Strawzynski and the original arrangements were by Thierry Durbet and Gérard Blanc. My version was performed on a Korg Kronos (CP70 and DX7 pianos, all organs), a Roland Jupiter-X synthesizer (all synths) and a Fender Stratocaster electric guitar. The drums are mostly Roland R8 samples programmed in Impact and the vocals were recorded through an AKG P120 condenser microphone. The song was sequenced and recorded in Presonus' Studio One 5.3 Artist DAW. Mastered by Soundcloud.

Gérard Blanc - Du Soleil Dans La Nuit [Instr. Cover] v2

This is the 4th mix of my instrumental cover of Bernard Lavilliers' 1986 self-penned hit single 'Noir et Blanc'. Three different mixes of this song were released: one on the CD version of the album 'Voleur de Feu', another as a 7" single and the third was included as a bonus 45rpm 12" single with the LP 'Voleur de Feu' that same year. My version is a hybrid of the three but it is closer to the 7" release. I performed it on a Roland Jupiter-X synthesizer, Impact XT (drums), Arturia's re-creations of the DX7, CMI, Emulator II, Juno-60 and OB-Xa, a Fender Stratocaster electric guitar and a Gear4Music bass guitar. It was recorded and mixed on Presonus equipment.

Bernard Lavilliers - Noir et Blanc [Instr. Cover] v4

This is my instrumental cover of Jean-Jacques Goldman's 1984 self-penned hit single 'Envole-Moi', from his album 'Positif'. This cover was sequenced on a Korg Kronos workstation, with sounds from the Kronos, from a Roland Jupiter 50, various instrument samples and a Fender Stratocaster electric guitar. It was recorded in Presonus' Studio One DAW and mixed through a StudioLive 24.4.2 console.

Jean-Jacques Goldman - Envole-Moi [Instr. Cover]

This is the third mix of my cover version of the late France Gall's 1987 hit single 'Ella, Elle L'a', which was written by (her equally late husband) Michel Berger and appears on France's album 'Babacar'. I still need to re-record some of the backing vocals due to unwanted saturation caused by a recurring malfunction with either my Mac or my mixing console. My version was performed on a Korg Kronos workstation, a Roland Jupiter-X synthesizer, an Arturia Prophet-VS synth, a few additional drum samples here and there, a gear4music bass guitar and a Fender Stratocaster electric guitar. As usual, it was sequenced, recorded and mixed in Presonus Studio One through a StudioLive 24.4.2 console.

France Gall - Elle, Elle L'a [Instr. Cover] - v3

This is my instrumental cover of Charts' 1989/1990 hit single 'Je m'envole', from their album 'L'Océan Sans Fond'. The song was written by Calogéro Maurici and Gioacchino Maurici. My version was sequenced, recorded and mixed in Presonus' Studio One DAW and performed on the following instruments:
- Korg Kronos (most drums),
- Roland Jupiter-X (string pad and some drums),
- Arturia Emulator II V (vox pad & marcato strings),
- Fender Stratocaster (all electric guitars),

Charts - Je m'envole [Instr. Cover]

This is my instrumental cover of Eurythmics' 1983 mega-hit 'Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This), from their album of the same name. The song was written by David A. Stewart and Annie Lennox. My version was performed on Impact XT (various drum samples), Roland Jupiter-X (synths), Arturia Solina V (various synth strings). It was recorded and mixed entirely on Presonus equipment (Studio One DAW and, for the very first time, on my new Studio 1810c interface and Faderport 16 DAW controller).

Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams [Instr. Cover]

This is my instrumental cover of Limahl's 1984 single 'The Neverending Story', from the movie of the same name. The original song was composed by Giorgio Moroder with lyrics by Keith Forsey and featured female vocals by Beth Anderson. My version was performed using Linn LM-1 drum samples in Impact XT, a Roland Jupiter-X synthesizer (all synths, synth bass and sitar overdubs) and Arturia's DX7 V for the main sitar patch. The guitar used was a Fender Stratocaster ('fat strat'); it was played through Ampire, which is why it sounds so terrible - I will get an amp one day. The track was recorded and mixed in Presonus Studio One 5.5 DAW with Faderport 16 and 1810c audio interface.

Limahl & Beth Anderson - The Never-Ending Story [Instr. Cover]

This is my cover version of Richard Sanderson's 1980 smash hit, 'Reality', a ballad from the soundtrack of teenage movie 'La Boum', starring Claude Brasseur, Brigitte Fossey and Sophie Marceau. The song was composed by Vladimir Cosma, who also wrote the lyrics under the alias Jeff Jordan. My version was sequenced, recorded and mixed in Presonus' Studio One DAW using the following instruments:
- Korg Kronos: all drum sounds
- Roland Jupiter-X: all synth and string sounds
- Arturia Solina V: synth strings
- gear4music LA bass: bass guitar

Richard Sanderson - Reality [Instr. Cover]

This is my instrumental cover of visually-impaired French singer Gilbert Montagné's 1984 comeback hit 'Les Sunlights des Tropiques', which he composed with Italian producer Dario Farina, with lyrics by Didier Barbelivien. The song is featured on his 1984 album 'Liberté' (Disques Carrère / Baby Records). My version was sequenced, recorded and mixed in Studio One, using the following instruments:
- Korg Kronos: pianos and cymbals
- Presonus Impact XT: drums
- Arturia DX7V: several synths and synth bass
- Roland Jupiter-X: synth bass and all other synths
- Fender Stratocaster: a couple of notes in the second verse.

This is an updated mix of my instrumental cover version of Julie Pietri's 1986 chart-topping French hit 'Eve, lève-toi', from her 1987 album 'Le Premier Jour' (CBS Records). It was written by Vincent-Marie Bouvot (music), Jean-Michel Bériat and Julie Pietri (lyrics). My version was sequenced, recorded and mixed in Presonus Studio One. It was performed on a Roland Jupiter-X synthesizer and a Korg Kronos workstation with Presonus Impact XT for drums.

This is my instrumental cover version of Daniel Balavoine's 1982 hit single 'Vivre ou Survivre', from the album 'Vendeurs de Larmes' (Disques Barclay, France). My version was performed on a Roland Jupiter-X synthesizer, a Korg Kronos workstation and a Fender Stratocaster electric guitar. It was recorded into Presonus Studio One through a StudioLive 24.4.2 Classic console. It was remixed and partly re-recorded using a Presonus Faderport 16 controller.

This is an updated mix of my instrumental cover of Desireless' 1986 hit single 'Voyage Voyage', which also appeared on her 1989 album 'Francois'. The song was written by Dominique Dubois (music) and Jean-Michel Rivat (music and lyrics). My version was performed on Roland Jupiter-X, Korg Kronos and Waldorf PPG 3.V synthesizers with LinnDrum samples. The guitar used in the solo was an HSS Fender Stratocaster. The first version of this cover was sequenced and recorded in Presonus' Studio One DAW through a StudioLive 24.4.2 Classic console. This version was remixed through a Presonus Studio 1810c audio interface, using a Presonus Faderport 16 controller.

Desireless - Voyage Voyage [Instr. Cover] v2

This is my instrumental cover version of Bronski Beat's 1984 mega-hit 'Smalltown Boy', from their album 'The Age of Consent' (London Records, 1984).  The song was written by Steve Bronski, Larry Steinbachek and lead vocalist Jimmy Somerville. My version was sequenced, recorded and mixed in Presonus' Studio One DAW with the help of the following instruments: Presonus Impact XT with LinnDrum samples (drums), Roland Jupiter-X (high strings, pad and bass) and Arturia DX7 V (synth brass, harp lead and woodblock lead). I am not quite sure why the supposedly linear tempo crescendo at the beginning of the song (from 127 to 135 bpm) does not sound linear but there you go...

Bronski Beat - Smalltown Boy [Instr. Cover] v2

This is my instrumental cover of INXS' hit single 'Need You Tonight', from their sixth studio album 'Kick' (WEA, 1987), which was produced by Chris Thomas. The song was written by band members Andrew Farriss and Michael Hutchence. My version was sequenced, recorded and mixed in Presonus' Studio One 5 Artist DAW. I didn't bother with the guitar ear candy, mostly because I'm a mediocre guitarist! The synth chords were played on a Korg Kronos and the guitar is a Fender Stratocaster.

INXS- Need You Tonight [Instr. Cover]

This is my instrumental cover version of Jeanne Mas' 1984 italo-disco smash hit, 'Toute Première Fois' (which means 'Very First Time'). The song was written by Romano Musumarra, Roberto Zanelli and Jeanne Mas. It is featured on her eponymous debut album (EMI France). My version was, as always, sequenced and recorded in Presonus' Studio One DAW and features the following instruments:

This is my instrumental cover of Sandra's 1985 smash hit '(I'll Never Be) Maria Magdalena', from her album 'The Long Play' (Virgin Records). The song was composed by Hubert Kemmler, Marcus Löhr, Michael Cretu and the lyrics were written by Richard Palmer-James.
My version was sequenced, recorded and mixed in Presonus' Studio One DAW using the following instruments:
- Drums: Impact XT with LinnDrum samples
- Korg Kronos: DX7 bass (sampled from my old DX7 Mk 1) - somehow, the equivalent patch on Arturia's DX7 V had a very clicky attack even after envelope editing so I couldn't use it
- Arturia Mini V: layered bass sound
- Roland Jupiter-X: everything else.

Sandra - (I'll Never Be) Maria Magdalena [Instr. Cover] v2

This is an updated mix of my instrumental cover version of French pop / new wave band Images' 1986 chart-topping debut single, 'Les Démons de Minuit', from their 1987 debut album 'L'Album d'Images'. It was written by C. & S. Després, J.-L. Pujade and P. Minoumi. 
My version was performed on my Roland Jupiter-X synthesizer and my Fender Stratocaster electric guitar. It was recorded and mixed in Presonus' Studio One 5.6 DAW using a Faderport 16 controller.

Images - Les Démons de Minuit [Instr. Cover] v2

This is an improved mix of my instrumental version of Paul Young's 1985 hit single 'Every Time You Go Away', from his album 'The Secret of Association'. It was written by Daryl Hall and was originally performed by Hall & Oates, on their 1980 album 'Voices'.
My version was performed on a Roland Jupiter-X synth, a Korg Kronos workstation, a Stagg electro-acoustic guitar and a Fender Stratocaster electric guitar. The fretless bass is a Korg Kronos patch. The track was recorded in Presonus' Studio One DAW using a Faderport 16 controller.

Paul Young - Every Time You Go Away [Instr. Cover] v4

This is a remixed version of my instrumental cover of Bananarama's 1983 hit single 'Cruel Summer', from their second album, Bananarama (London Records, 1984). The track was sequenced and recorded on a Korg Kronos X 73 workstation and transferred track-by-track into Studio One. It was mixed in Studio One using a Faderport 16 controller. The electric guitar line was played on a Fender Stratocaster DI'd into the mixing console. All drums and keyboard parts were played on a Korg Kronos workstation, except the re-recorded synth strings, which are from Arturia's Jupiter-8V.

Bananarama - Cruel Summer [Instr. Cover]

This is my instrumental cover of the late Gérard Blanc's 1986 hit single 'Une Autre Histoire', from his 1988 album 'Ailleurs Pour Un Ailleurs' (EMI). The song was composed by Gérard Blanc, with lyrics by Marc Strawzynski. My version was sequenced and recorded in Studio One and performed on a Roland Jupiter-X synthesizer, a Korg Kronos workstation, Arturia's Synclavier V, a Fender Stratocaster electric guitar and a gear4music bass guitar. Apologies for my terrible attempt at backing vocals!

Gerard Blanc - Une Autre Histoire [Instr. Cover] - updated

This is my instrumental version of Gold's 1986 hit single 'Ville de Lumière'. The ballad's lyrics were about the then war-torn city of Beirut (Lebanon). The song was written by Jacques Cardona and Gold's keyboardist, the amazing Bernard Mazauric, who was once a major influence on my playing.

My version was recorded and mixed in Presonus' Studio One DAW through a Presonus 1810c interface and via a Faderport 16 controller. It features the following instruments:

- Presonus Impact XT (LinnDrum samples except for the toms and hi-hats),
- gear4music LA bass guitar,
- Fender Stratocaster electric guitar (for the solo and the rhythm guitar behind it),
- Roland Jupiter-X (the right channel string pad, my re-creation of the JX-8P's Overtones factory patch and the Simmons toms),
- Korg Kronos (the heavily high-pass filtered DX7 FullTines patch in the left channel during the intro and in the choruses, as well as the hi-hats),

Instrumental cover version of Australian 80s band Real Life's hit single 'Send Me An Angel', from their 1983 album 'Heartland'. This was sequenced on my old Roland Fantom X7 and recorded on a Tascam DP-24SD digital recorder. The mix isn't great but, as I no longer have the sequence or stems, re-mixing the track would be like trying to unbake a cake. I am aware of the phase cancellation issue on the saw lead / arpeggio; this is the result of an incorrect button push on the Tascam recorder.

Real Life - Send Me An Angel [Instr. Cover]

This is the result of a coronavirus lockdown collaboration between myself (synths & drum programming) and my cousin, guitarist extraordinaire Rémi Favérial, who also played bass on the track. Keyboard-wise, the song was performed on a Korg Kronos and a Roland Jupiter-X. It was mixed and somewhat hastily mastered in Presonus' Studio One DAW through a StudioLive 24.4.2 Classic console.
