In the 1980s, Hip-Hop culture exploded, fueled by the innovation of sampling, which allowed artists to create new music by reusing existing tracks. Malcolm McLaren's "Buffalo Gals" introduced scratching and sampling to a wider Western audience. Afrika Bambaataa fused electronic music with Hip-Hop, influencing the genre's evolution. Herbie Hancock's "Rock It" brought scratching into jazz fusion, bridging different musical styles. In France, Sidney’s show "H.I.P. H.O.P." on TF1 in 1984 was groundbreaking, introducing the French audience to Hip-Hop culture and playing a key role in its spread across the country.

The song has the rare distinction of being entirely bilingual English-French, featuring the same lyrics translated into both languages: the English lyrics are sung, while the same lyrics translated into French are spoken by a female voice.
