Mit einfachen Worten erklärt Markus Weicker seinen Künstlernamen, und genauso klingen auch die Beats des Produzenten: bodenständig, ehrlich, unsynthetisch. Der Offenbacher, der 2010 erstmals eine MPC in die Hand bekommt und einige Jahre eher für sich im Kämmerlein Instrumentals baut, steht nicht auf den dicken Aufstrich.
Lieber pflegt Gibmafuffi das oldschoolige Eastcoast-Erbe des 90er-Hip Hop. Der Autodidakt feiert entspannte, warme Boom Baps mit leichter Jazznote, implementiert in seine Tracks Vocalcuts von Curse, Blumentopf und Retrogott.
"Dexter Gordon, Chet Baker, Gerry Mulligan, Paul Desmond, John Coltrane, eine Flasche Jägi und eine Packung Tabak: für mich der perfekte Abend", unterstreicht Weicker.
2014 sorgt er mit der Beinahe-Instrumental-EP "Trinkhallenromantik" für erstes Aufhorchen. Anfang 2016 veröffentlicht der langjährige Freund und Beatbastler von Döll seine erste eigene Instrumental-LP. Labelheimat bieten die Heilbronner von WSP Entertainment.
Noch vor der Musik arbeitet Weicker semi-hobbymäßig mit seinem Bruder Michael als Videoproduzent. Unter dem Namen The Factory basteln die beiden unter anderem Videos für Kollegah oder Genetikk. Zu seinen musikalischen Traumproduktionen rechnet Gibmafuffi Hiob, Karate Andi und Audio88 & Yassin.
"Liebe für Jazz, Soul und Musik aus den 70ern auf Vinyl hatte ich schon immer", erklärt Gibmafuffi. "Es gibt für mich nichts Größeres, als stundenlang Musik durchzuhören." So nutzt er für seine Veröffentlichungen auch obskure Samples, bei denen mal DDR-Jazz, mal alte kroatische Fernsehserien als Quelle dienen.

Hi, I'm Pain au Chocolat 79 (Frizzante). I grew up in the southwest of Germany and have been living in the southeast for over ten years now. Starting out as a conscious rap and funk DJ, I currently play mostly broken electronic sounds with a lot of bass from jazzy to cheesy. I also try to produce tracks like that but yeah, it’s not that easy :).

For me, Nuremberg's nightlife is strongly linked to DIY culture. There are so many diverse crews and collectives shaping the night (and sometimes the day). While it seems to be rather quiet in the city, especially in the city center, you can be sure that there is always something going on in the surrounding neighborhoods. Sometimes I think if it's the city's industrial history that's responsible for the strong (electronic) music scene here. And sometimes I wonder whether it's because of the Bavarian government that the scene has to organize itself so often on a voluntary basis. Either way, it's there and it's beautiful. Kudos to all the bass heads, breakbeat people and other active humans who turn the night into an inclusive experience for everyone and make us forget the struggle of everyday life <3

With a production career spanning almost a decade, Brazilian-born, Barcelona-based Pedro Capelossi has forged a distinctive sound which focuses on inventive use of atmosphere and rhythm, drawing the lines between global dance cultures without adhering to any fixed formula.

In 2023 he founded his own musical imprint REFRACTION RECORDS.  Representing some of the world’s most avant-garde visual artists, designers and musicians, REFRACTION blurs the boundaries between house, techno and its closely related derivatives.

Pablo Bolivar's Seven Villas has been a primary vehicle for Pedro's far-reaching work, with additional projects on Nick Warren's The Soundgarden, Madloch’s Sound Avenue, Loot Recordings, TOR (When We Dip) and Hoomidas Records. Over the years, Pedro's tracks have been supported by names such as Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo, Eelke Kleijn, Pablo Bolívar, Armen Miran, Matt Darrey and Airwave.

Capelossi’s DJ performances focus on underground dub house and dub techno, deep house, minimal and downtempo. His versatility to move between different styles depending on audience and event, allows him to perform club gigs as well as festivals. He has played innumerable events both in his current home of Barcelona, as well as back in São Paulo, and, indeed, around the world.

We have been following Pedro for years now, and are honoured that he agreed to make us this exclusive guest mix, Institution 085: Pedro Capelossi!

From Düsseldorf to Bonn, from Cologne to Mainz. Before moving on again, Léon returns to the place where he first met Hendrik in 2017. The record collection, which was previously characterized by hip-hop, jazz and reggae, finds its electronic origins here. Somewhere between trip-hop, deep house, spherical ambient and dubby techno, Léon is always on the lookout for new music to float with you through the night.

Born and raised in the Ruhr area, Hennig, fka Hendrik Flügel, had limited access to electronic music. But after moving to Bonn and attending his first raves, his love for deep, melancholic and breaking beats took hold. In 2018, he was one of the founders of einausflug.de, now one of the city's most thriving underground music event collectives.

When Hendrik told his girlfriend that he was supposed to write something about the nightlife in Bonn, she said, that there was nothing to write about. In fact Bonn’s underground music scene has had some tough years, with almost all electronic clubs closing down within the last 10 years.
Recently, however, some strong collectives, such as balavagn, C13, KOMM RAVEN and einausflug, have been able to establish themselves trying to keep the party going in the former capital of Germany.

Slouk @slouk is a French DJ and record collector currently based in Brighton, UK. He discovered the sound of arpeggios as a child, through the 80s Synth-pop tapes from his parents and CDs borrowed at the multimedia library. In his early twenties, he moved to Canada where he heard the sound of Hi-NRG and Italo on the dancefloors of Montreal. Ever since, he started to collect records. Slouk's musical journey took a darker path five years ago, while he was living in Berlin. It is behind the missed doors of the Melancholie 2 fridge and the Wrong Era parties that he discovered another facet of Italo and Dark disco... Through this mix, he tried to transcribe the dark and energetic atmosphere he experienced there.
