The project Funkvergnuegen started in 2003 when the notorious crate diggers Marc Hype and Katmando came up with the idea to mix old german music live on their shows. The discoveries went from old MPS jazz to Krautrock rarities to obscure cover funkversions and catched a very own fan crowd. The Funkvergnuegen Promo Mix CDs, Volume 1 + 2, are most sought after in germany and beyond.

I've been on a two year long hiatus from the vinyls / mixtape game, however after much deliberation and delay, I'm happy to give you Part 002 in a series of mixes curated by Mike Who and myself: CORNERSTONE SELECTIONS. Recorded in one take with not much preparation, grimy and raw, one-take, Sunnybank style.

This one is 74-minutes long and features 36 records that I wanted to share specifically with Mike. Expect sounds ranging from sweet soul, high school disco rap, reggae, rap samples, psych, post punk, city pop, jazz, rap dance boogie, Latin, cover versions, Asian joints, dancing music and much more! Over two decades of hard work dug mostly in person from the depths of the UK, US, France, New Zealand, Scotland, Thailand, Africa, Turkey, Australia, Hong Kong, China, Holland and more!

Easy listening drum'n'base mix 2010

Mr Bee & Benito Turntable sont tous deux originaires de la région parisienne et férus de Hip Hop depuis leur adolescence. Ils se rencontrent à l'Antirouille (ancienne place forte du Hip Hop à Paris) en 2008 où ils commencent à mixer leurs disques vinyles pour la première fois en public, au départ séparément puis l'alchimie faisant le reste ils fondent ensemble l'association Native Songs, clin d'oeil au collectif qui les a façonné, et organisent plusieurs soirées ensemble sur la capitale.
En 2011, Benito s'exile à Montréal, suivi un an plus tard par Mr Bee qui le rejoint de l'autre côté de l'Atlantique, mais dans une ville frontalière du Canada: Detroit City, la patrie de Jay Dee aka J Dilla !
L'histoire de ce mix débute fin 2015 entre Noël et nouvel an, période au cours de laquelle Bee rend visite à Benito emportant avec lui une sélection de disques Hip Hop instrumentales, les 2 compères s'enferment ensemble quelques jours pendant une tempête de neige et concoctent un mix "Instru Mental" d'une quarantaine de tracks : https://soundcloud.com/benito-turntable/benito-mr-bee-instru-mental.
Voici l'épisode 2 qui poursuit l'aventure suivant le même concept en se nourrissant de leurs découvertes Hiphopologiques et évolutions musicales personnelles au cours de ces 4 dernières années. Seule différence: ce nouvel opus a été enregistré à distance, Mr Bee étant revenu vivre à Paris depuis.

Hip Hop Instru Mental #2 - Mr Bee & Benito Turntable

For me, there are two major unsung influences why a lot of DJ’s started cutting-up the little records over the past decade or so and they have nothing to do with the lame excuse of not having to carry heavy crates!  One is the video of 45 King video on his portable turntables and the other is DJ Rocking Rob’s 2006 set at Crotona Park in the Bronx.  It was the year before the iPhone came out (so the days when people were watching and listening, not filming), but at the time this set truly shook some DJ’s and inspired others and word of mouth spread quickly.  Before long there were "45 only sets" popping up everywhere in NYC and beyond.   I favour the big records over the little ones but Rob is one of my favourite DJ's - fast and funky with it.  Here’s the first 45 minutes of that set.
