In the realm of Balearic beat, the vinyl notes waver between the echoes of house and Italo house, embracing the mellow sway of deep house. A languid R&B-infused beat, clocking in below 119bpm, sets the rhythm, composed of the essential trio: bass drum, snare, and hi-hats, often choreographed by the Roland TR-909 drum machine. These beats unfold in a laid-back dance, a rhythmic tapestry woven with the soulful threads of Latin, African, Funk, and Dub influences. Balearic beat borrows production techniques from its dance music contemporaries, an eclectic fusion popular in its heyday.

Vocals, though intermittent, share the stage with instrumental compositions, where acoustic instruments like guitars and pianos occasionally join the melodic conversation. Yet, tethered to a specific percussion pattern that eventually fell out of favor, the once-prominent Balearic beat gracefully bowed out, its repertoire assimilated into the broader realms of "chill out" and "downtempo" genres.

The architects of Balearic beat, in contrast to their UK disciples, define its essence as the DJ's ability to traverse a vast sonic landscape, navigating from the early minimalism of New Beat to the pioneering extended remixes of pop anthems. Balearic DJ sets are a testament to the art of musical divergence, marked by sharp turns in direction. Beyond Ibiza's shores, the general perception labels Balearic beat as a distinct music style. However, within the island's community, it is a rebellion against conformity, an embrace of non-style—a challenge to the norm. It embodies a freestyle expression seamlessly binding sporadic vinyl inspirations through technical finesse on the turntables.

In the present electronic dance music landscape, where stylistic boundaries reign supreme, only a handful of promoters and DJs dare to stretch the spectrum of styles as far as Balearic beat once did, fearing the loss of identity and clientele. DJ Alfredo remains a torchbearer of diversity among Ibiza DJs, but the art of mixing and the terminology that once defined Balearic beat have largely been absorbed by the Chillout scene.

Balearic Boogie

Javi Frias is an artist devoted to the culture of disco. 
His musical journey began when he started collecting funky records as a young soul boy in his hometown of Madrid. 
Now he travels the world, spreading love, and rocking parties, through his eclectic DJ sets full of sultry disco edits, boogie bombs, and soulful house sounds. 
As a producer, he has recently started making noise with a series of impressive edits and reworks, which have been published on a handful of EPs and singles with influential labels including Street Edits, Tropical Disco, Midnight Riot, and Boogie Café. 
His music has been supported by disco heavyweights such as Danny Krivit, Red Greg, Horse Meat Disco, Jacques Renault and Dave Lee, whom he has also shared the decks with at his own famed Discotizer parties. 
Connecting all the disco dots, Javi also has his own label ‘Night Shift Records’ where he has predominantly released a series of his own club ready re-edits, as well as working with Never Dull, Delfonic, Solazz and Chassé.

Midnight Riot is hitting the airwaves in style, now gracing the iconic Street Sounds Radio with their fresh weekly primetime show every Friday night, running from 11pm to 1am. 

Leading the charge is label head honcho Yam Who? alongside Midnight Riot's very own Jaegerossa. Ant of Generic People is often & best described as a multi-media junkie.
An established visual artist, graphic designer, disc-jockey, VJ & music producer based in the creative hotbed that is Cork City in the south of Ireland.

He built his reputation as part of the GENERIC PEOPLE collective who have notched up a well-deserved standing for tearing-up clubs and festivals with their cutting edge Audio/Visual DJ sets and full live band shows. 
Known for sticking two fingers up to musical boundaries & rocking a multitude of high energy, floor shaking, mind bending ideas, cross-genres & styles during their Live shows & hybrid DJ sets. 

In 2020 he made his debut as a solo artist with a string of Top 10 tracks alongside the steady release of the “Backroom Edits & Remix” series that feature the cuts that were made exclusively for his Disk Jockey sets.

His sound is fresh, original and highly influenced by his first love of Disco & raw Electronica and styled by his sublime live DJ sets as much as they are by his studio sessions and personal record collection.
His music belongs equal parts on the dancefloor and equal parts on your headphones.
