Backyard BBQ 183 (A lil Somthin Somethin)

We have got the Mark Farina Subequatorial Mix digitized and ready for your listening ahead of his return to Brisbane for Zen & The Art of House! Recorded back in 1994 in Phil Smart’s Bondi home, this is what Phil had to say about its creation.

“It was 1993 when I first encountered Mark Farina. I’d been travelling to DJ in San Francisco for a couple of years already when Mark came out from Chicago with Derrick Carter to play for the first time. They totally blew everyone’s minds, DJs and dancers alike. We all realised we’d witnessed something extraordinary, and I just knew I had to get them out to Australia.

I’d started a series of parties in Sydney called Organic, and in March of 1994 I brought Mark out to play. He stayed at my house in Bondi, and one day he decided to make a mix tape. Standard operating procedure for me to make a mix tape was to get a bunch of records together and practice with them for a while before pressing record, but Mark just popped a blank tape in the cassette deck, hit record and laid down this mix in one go!

I rediscovered it in my archives recently and figured it would be great to put it out into the world again, and with Mark’s approval we are pleased to present it to you now”.

We are very sad we wont be playing at our favourite venue on the Planet this year due to the pandemic so we've made a little Mix to make up for it.

The Snug is situated in a little corner of Beatherdershire where for the last few years we've been very lucky to do a Friday Night takeover bringing along a few of our good friends including Monster Monster, Fallback & Feline.  Without doubt this is one of the best venues in the festival with friendly vibes and great atmosphere all weekend long.

We will miss the Snug and all the crew this year but hopefully catch up on the other side.
