Neon Healing

This song tells my story, on various levels. While it focuses on my career through the highs and lows, it can be relatable to all who use music to persevere through tough times. I was just two years old when I was entered into my first singing competition at the Ilderton Fair, just outside my home town of London Ontario. I had long curly hair, wore a white dress and sang “You Are My Sunshine.” I took home first place that night; the rest is history. The story that continues after that day remains the proverbial rollercoaster. There have been some incredible experiences along the way, but often when the curtain gets pulled back in the music industry, it is easy to lose sight of the magic that the music can create, lose sight of what pulled you into the “music” universe in the first place. It can be extremely difficult to navigate a balance between your passion for the music and the negativity that you can encounter along the way.  Music in it’s purest sense is meant to be uplifting and healing, but the process of delivering it can work in reverse and tear you down at times. I’ve always strived to be my authentic self, and when I think back to why I began this journey, it was and always will continue to be the music. I am not ashamed to admit now that this song could very well have been my career “farewell” song. However in the process of bringing this song to life I came to realize that this is a new beginning. This song gave me new life by bringing me back to the reason I love doing this…the music.

I want to thank my co-writer Jennifer Schott; an absolute power house, mentor and friend who has been with me during my whole professional career; I couldn’t have written this with anyone else. And lastly, thank you music, you’ve always had a way of pulling me back in. While this song is my story, it can be relevant to anyone who turns on their favourite song. For that moment it is all about the music. Music is healing. Music is emotion. Music can be anything we want it to be for us at that moment that we need comfort. I think we can all thank music for bringing us some of our greatest joys and helping us get through our toughest times.

Thank You Music

Genevieve Fisher has had the good fortune to co-write with some of the brightest writers. "Best Thing About The Rain" was no different. This track shares writing credits between Genevieve, Aaron Goodvin and Jennifer Schott. Written during her last trip to Nashville in 2022, this song was an immediate "Must Release to Radio" consideration. As soon as she left the writing session, the wheels were put in motion to record the track for the purpose of sharing it across all platforms and radio. Her producer on the track was, once again, Nashville's Jason Massey with mixing by Billy Decker. Genevieve recorded her vocals in her Ontario home studio with the rest of the production being completed by Jason in Nashville. 

London born and raised, Genevieve Fisher, has earned 9 top 50 hits on Billboard’s Mediabase Canadian National Country Chart. Genevieve has earned recognition within the Canadian Country Music scene by earning 7 Female Artist of the Year nominations, including 2023, as we well as numerous nominations for Single of the Year and Songwriter of the Year at the Country Music Association of Ontario Music Awards.

Best Thing About The Rain

“Now We’re Talking” is Genevieve’s first music offering for 2024. This single was yet another which was pitched to her by her producer Jason Massey. It was clear right from the first 30 seconds of the demo that this was a song perfectly suited for Genevieve, her fans and radio. The lyrics and music was put together by a powerhouse writing team which includes Steven Lee Olsen, MacKenzie Porter, Jason Massey and Lydia Vaughan. Although it has been almost a year between singles, she has maintained a busy schedule both professionally and privately. Genevieve continued to expand her flourishing acting career with the filming and promoting of her 2 most recent Television movies, Country Hearts and Count Hearts Christmas. Privately she has taken a number of months to get to know her recently born second son. She looks forward to a busy summer live show schedule.

Now We're Talking

I'm so excited to share my new single, Stopped Looking with you! I co-wrote this song with my friends Shantaia and Mallory Johnson back in February of 2022. From the moment I started playing the intro I knew it would turn out  special. This song is deeply personal to me, as it’s inspired by my relationship with my husband. We met in a bar in 2011 and fell madly in love. Stopped Looking is about that moment when you realize you've found the right person. While the song is rooted to my own experience, I feel the song can resonate with everyone who has that same love and connection. It has wedding song vibes for sure! The feel is soulful and deeply inspired by artists like Chris Stapleton. What also excited me about recording this track was the opportunity to challenge my vocals. I love pushing myself, and this allowed me to showcase a range that I don't always get to explore. The cherry on top was having Shantaia sing the background vocals—her harmonies bring that choir-like vibe that takes the song to another level. I’m so proud of how it all came together, and I hope you connect with it the way I do. It’s one of my favourite songs and hopefully it will become one of yours. I can’t wait for you to hear it!

STOPPED LOOKING

“Must Be Listening” pulls together 2 of Canada’s most respected female  Country artists, Genevieve Fisher and Madeline Merlo. Originally the song was pitched to Genevieve by her long time writing partner and friend, Nashville songwriter Jennifer Schott. The song was co-written by Jennifer and Madeline Merlo. Although Genevieve did not have a writing credit on the song, it was a perfect fit for her. Everything about it was just right. Immediately Genevieve and her team agreed this should be her next radio single. Genevieve often does her own harmonies and background vocals but we felt it would be fittng if Madeline Merlo herself would be willing to join Genevieve and take on that role. Madeline graciously agreed without hesitation. This song offers the smooth lead vocals from Genevieve and the writing perfection and harmonies from Madeline. This song was produced by Genevieve’s long time Nashville producer Jason Massey. Genevieve performed the vocals in her home studio while Madeline joined Jason in Nashville to complete the harmonies. Ultimately, the final result is a seamless recording that needs to be heard. Industry ears that have already heard this indicate that this is one of Genevieve’s best singles to date. We hope you agree.

Genevieve delivers another great vocal performance in her new single "Outta Towners". Once again Genevieve shares writing credits on this release with her producer, Jason Massey, in what has become a formidable writing duo. Keeping in line with many of her past releases, "Outta Towners" describes a free spirited couple living in the moment. The track exhibits all the elements of what is current in Country music while retaining some of the traditional sounds such as banjo and slide guitar.  This was recorded and produced by Jason in Nashville, mixed by Billy Decker and mastered by Jim DeMain.

Outta Towners

This is the followup to Genevieve's last successful single, "Outta Towners" which became her 7th top 50 hit single on Canadian Country radio. Genevieve has approached this release differently. "1943 (Nanna's Song)" has a traditional Country feel and goes back to simply having a great story to tell with, with great lyrics, pretty melody and of course, outstanding vocals to pull it all together. Genevieve co-wrote this song with Nashville based, award winning songwriter Jeff Cohen. Not only has he written for bands such as Sugarland, The Band Perry and Big and Rich, but he is also recognized as creating soundtracks for television shows such as Jack and Jill(theme song), Dawson's Creek, Party of Five, Desperate Housewives, Reba, The Simpson's, Saturday Night Live and many more. Below, Genevieve describes the inspiration, and even reservations, about releasing this song to radio.

"1943 (Nanna's Song) is probably the most personal song I’ve written to date. I wrote this song with my dear friend Jeff Cohen in Nashville back in 2017. Because this song isn’t your standard “country radio song”, I hesitated releasing it. As an independent artist, I have a lot of fears about my music. Fears of rejection and failure. But when I sat down and thought about the lyrics of this song and what this song means to me, I seriously just said “to hell with it all, I am releasing this song!” It truly means everything to me, and I want the world to hear it. I know for a fact so many of you will be able to relate to this song. I hope it tugs at your heart strings and allows you to reflect on the memories of your mother or grandmothers. 
This writing session will forever remain memorable for me. I remember it like it was yesterday. It was an extremely emotional writing session. Jeff helped me bring this song to life, and I can’t imagine having written it with anyone else. I broke down in this session, and boy oh boy there were a lot of tears. I remember Jeff looking at me and saying, “This…this is exactly why we write music.” My Nanna is truly one of the most important people in my life. She has been one of my biggest supporters and fans from the beginning. She has watched me go through the highest of highs, and lowest of lows. She has helped shape the woman I am today. The fact that she is still here on earth makes this song even more special. I am beyond grateful that she can experience the release of this song with me and grateful that I can share it with you. I know how proud she is of me, but I don’t think she knows how proud I am to have her as my grandmother.

1943 (Nanna's Song)

The story behind this was inspired by a real life experience for Genevieve. The message is one that so many are able to relate to. 

"I had just performed at a show in my hometown which I found to be disappointing in terms of lack of support. I quickly began second guessing myself and started second guessing so much of what I was doing. Coincidentally I had already arranged some writing sessions in Nashville with my flight leaving the following day. As I always do, I started to come up with some song ideas. In this case, I specifically started to focus on how I was feeling following that previous night. I vividly remember thinking that I needed to write a song to pick myself back up and get me back on track. I needed to write a song for me. I was drawing from my own emotions. This was one case where I was the inspiration behind this song.

I walked into my write with Karen Kosowski and Emma-Lee feeling lost and defeated. I told them I had a title in mind: “Someone Else” - essentially saying that if you could see yourself through the eyes of someone else, that you could see your potential and beauty. I know I’m not alone in this. So often, we can be our our own worst critic. While you would never think of telling someone that they’re not good enough, or pretty enough, or strong enough, we seem to find it easy to think of ourselves in these terms. Sometimes we just need that reminder, to step back, take a deep breath, and try to see yourself through the eyes of Someone Else."

Genevieve co-wrote Someone Else with Karen Kosowski and Emma-Lee. The track was recorded in Nashville in late February of 2020. Her production was once again completed under the direction of her producer Jason Massey with engineering by Billy Decker.

Someone Else

I am so excited about the release of my brand new single “Playing Favourites!” The song was written by Jason Massey, Hannah Ellis and Nicolle Gaylon. My producer, Jason Massey, had sent me this song almost two years ago, but at the time it was on hold for Carly Pearce. Even though I fell in love with the song, I kind of let it go, seeing as it was on hold for Carly! However, in February of 2020 (before the pandemic hit), I was in Nashville on a writing trip, and during a write with Jason, I said “hey..whatever happened to the song Playing Favourites? Did anyone ever end up recording it.” He looked at me kind of puzzled, and said “no, are you still interested in it?” I looked at him with a “hell yes I am” kind of look (haha!). He reached out to the other writers and they were all on board! Well, obviously the pandemic hit so recording this song looked a lot different for me. Jason helped me set up my little home studio. I purchased a bunch of recording gear, and we began the recording process! It was also amazing to have Al Rowe, Mark Rynkun, Will Hebbes, and Rich DaSilva playing on this song. All Canadian boys, and people I’ve shared the stage with! My heart and soul went into this song, and I hope you guys love it as much as I do!
