Nathan L. is a producer currently based in Berlin. They arrive to Realist off the back of the [LV.SNGZ] EP, one of 2025’s most head-turning releases, the culmination of many years’ work in a computational avant-garde. As much a culmination as the stimulation of a new beginning, NhL’s recent work exemplifies a development in the corpus of hyperglitch, matching technical exploration of the soundscapes of computational noise with investigation into the lives ravelled, contorted and performed in online and digital spaces, as well as further play with the audial potentialities of the computer and web as instrument. There is yet the extreme subversiveness of a music built from codified stammers and algorithmic rupture, but it gains now an intertextuality, a biographical element even, where the destruction of glitch is a means of articulating the ecstatic wasteland of the digital… where bodies are reshaped in a vortex of labyrinthine élan, of fan-communities and livelihoods sycophantic, cultural exchange and intertextuality where personhood is composed of the indefinite and abraded incorporeity chartered by this chaotic noise.

NhL’s Realist mix is a furthering of this world. Voices range from those of the obsequious YouTuber, petitioning our allegiance, to samplings of Japanese media, to voices reduced not to linguistic legibility but a choral thrum, incandescent in their heavenly incoherence, all posed alongside the shattering percussion of glitch. No longer an illustration of solely the instrumental possibilities of hyperglitch, this is an evincement of hyperglitch as a language for the articulation of new bodies, souls and skeletons refound and visible only in a surplusage of bits and data, entities like a cascade of perforated light, bemired in a canon of infinite disappearance. It is an articulation made possible by NhL’s combination of supreme creativity and mischievous bravery. It is an articulation only explicable when encountered. And this encountering an audacious, perplexing and the embodiment of an exigent, essential music.
