Anjunabeats presents extended mixes of ‘199X’, the debut artist album from Damion ‘Damo’ Houchen, aka Genix.

A love letter to rave culture, ‘199X’ is a departure from the sound that Damion Houchen, who we affectionately call Damo, is best known for. Through the late 2000s and 2010s, he caught the ear of Armin van Buuren and Paul van Dyk with his textured, melodic take on trance. He secured releases on both Armada and Vandit. 

Genix arrived on Anjunabeats in 2010 and immediately became a mainstay in Above & Beyond’s sets with tracks like ‘Aura’, ‘Destinations’ and ‘Black Water’ (the latter written with regular touring partner Sunny Lax). From those origins, Genix has blossomed into a mainstay of the trance scene.

‘199X’ dropped on the label in September 2021. Since the album’s release, Genix has taken ‘199X’ to Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy 450 celebrations at The Drumsheds London, Dreamstate, and our recent label shows in London and Miami. Genix has also been touring '199X' in headline club shows across North America, Europe and Australia. Tracks from the album have been supported by Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren, Joseph Capriati, Paco Osuna, Gabriel & Dresden, Darude and more.

Shortly after finishing '199X', he set about reworking it entirely. He swapped acid bass riffs and pounding kick drums for calmer textures and soundscapes – the result was ‘199X’ (Chill Edition), a complete reimagination of the album featuring Damo’s chillout, ambient and drum & bass remixes. 

Alongside his main stage set, Genix will perform a special chill-out set at Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy Weekender festivities at The Gorge in July 2022. After two and a half years away from the label, Gabriel & Dresden (Josh and Dave to their friends) return to Anjunabeats with ‘Bias’, as heard on Anjunabeats Volume 16.

Dave Dresden and Josh Gabriel have built an enduring legacy in their 20+ years in dance music. Hailing from the US, the DJ and producer duo helped define the sound of modern dance music with hits like ‘As The Rush Comes’ and ’Tracking Treasure Down.’ They’ve created three essential mixes on BBC Radio 1 and won Best American DJ twice at IDMA Awards – a testament to just how loved and respected this duo are in the UK and beyond. The pair made their ‘The Only Road’ and ‘Remedy’ albums off the back of Kickstarter campaigns released on Anjunabeats in 2017 and 2020 respectively, and their 2018 remix of Cosmic Gate’s ‘Only Road’ was nominated for a GRAMMY.

Although ‘Bias’ is their first release in a while, the pair stayed active during the pandemic with their Club Quarantine lockdown streams. The duo kept millions of people company online, and now they’re doing it in real life with their ‘Gabriel & Dresden and Friends’ US touring concept.

“After spending the pandemic focused on #ClubQuarantine, we were itching to make music again. We decided to do something Josh had wanted to do for many years, build a modular synthesizer to inspire new kinds of creativity in the studio.

After spending months researching which modules to get, we settled on the relatively modest setup that would be our sound palette for making Bias. We were excited to take a more stripped-down approach to making music, as well as not being tied to a computer screen while making it.

When Josh first played the main acid lead, we had a shared excitement for it and immediately started recording an hour of knob tweaking. The result was recorded to six separate channels and then cut and layered in Ableton to create the final track.

As Anjunabeats' first signing and one of our label's oldest and dearest friends, he mixed the Anjunabeats Worldwide 08 compilation in 2018; featuring ten of his own tracks, it reached the #1 spot on the iTunes dance chart in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and more. 

Oli’s last releases on Anjunabeats, ‘Make Me Feel’, ‘Snowfall’ and ‘Borderline’, won support from the likes of Armin van Buuren, Ben Malone and Gabriel & Dresden, with the former single earning a spot in the Anjunabeats Volume 16 compilation. Last year, he took our Group Therapy Weekenders at The Gorge, London and Australia by storm, and followed up a busy summer of touring with a dynamic set at Anjunabeats Los Angeles. 

Anton Sonin, aka SØNIN, has been featured on mint, NMF Dance, Trance Mission and Night Rider on Spotify, as well as danceXL and New Music Daily on Apple Music. Anton cut his teeth as a producer in a studio space in Helsinki, shared with compatriots Super8 & Tab, Yotto and Supermodels From Paris. At the forefront of progressive and trance for almost a decade, London-based ilan Bluestone made his debut on Anjunabeats in 2012. Producing high-energy trance with heart and soul, his emotional, song-drive approach to dance music has earned him eleven genre chart #1’s on Beatport and a legion of fans around the world.

With support from Pete Tong (Radio 1), Annie Nightingale (BBC R1), Charlie Hedges (BBC R1), Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Above & Beyond and many more, he's is one of trance music’s most influential figures. 

ilan had a busy 2022: he wrapped up his 'Impulse' tour in support of his second studio album, delivered an incredible set at Group Therapy Weekender London, and worked hard on new music in between touring the globe. 

This year, ilan headlined sold-out shows in London, Manchester and Dallas, and is currently touring across North America. He’s also set to step behind the decks at Tomorrowland and Above & Beyond's Group Therapy Weekender at The Gorge later this summer.

Astral Records continues a strong spring season by welcoming Against All Ødds back to the label for a new EP. Hailing from Israel and previously known as Mimram, Against All Ødds emerged in 2022 on the strength of past releases via Freegrant Music, Timeless Moment and Parquet Recordings. The Against All Ødds production moniker was introduced to the world via Darin Epsilon's Perspectives Digital as part of the label's 'Around The World' compilation series. Immediately recognized for his astral take on melodic house and techno, the Jerusalem resident would go on to record projects for Beatfreak, Lost On You, Panda Lab and UV Noir, in turn earning praise from the genre's premiere tastemakers. Also finding a home on Astral Records, Against All Ødds would make his label debut with 'Higher Ground', a two-track showcase alongside a remix from Grigoré which capped off an impressive year for the Israeli artist. Now, following a single for Fideles Impressum imprint to begin 2024, Against All Ødds returns to Astral with 'Reflections'. The EP's title selection 'Reflections' sets the pace and lands with many of Against All Odds' beloved production hallmarks. Tight kick drums and neatly manicured percussion provide a DJ friendly intro, as rhythmic pulses set the course for the bassline to deliver a rush of free-flowing energy. Cruising effortlessly across the first act, it's an amalgamation of sci-fi vocal samples and wonky synth mutations which adds further depth and character, a vibe which is sure to cast a prophetic mood over the dance floor. The Israeli artist's elusive vision shines during the main break, as he maintains a sense of restraint and tension that astute fans will appreciate, before robotized vocals spark a dynamic moment and strong synth driven finale. Rounding out the release are the driving qualities of 'Lights Out', a track where Against All Ødds aims squarely at a peak hour dancefloor. Marrying the classic and contemporary sounds of the genre, the Israeli artist crafts an aesthetic that is groovy, powerful and effortlessly cool, one that balances a loud-soft dynamic perfectly. Holographic synths flash through a whirlwind of rebounding rhythms and coral monochromes across a smooth first movement, as emotion continues to rise during the interlude, before a series of haunting vocal fragments and reverent textures meet highly explosive beats and heavy basslines for a thunderous finale.
