When I first heard the original track I was hooked by the summery vibe of it, perhaps it also helped that the door from my studio to the balcony was open, so I was having the pleasure of a nice summer breeze in my face while working. Anyway, The challenge I had with this remix was to capture the summer feeling and then turn it into a dance track. In order to do so I decided to keep the original major key, which was crucial for maintaining that summer feeling, and then build some kind of summery loop in it (which ended up being the drop). After about 20 drinks and a couple of days, this remix was finished. I had a lot of fun remixing this track and I hope you enjoy it!

[FREE] Capital Cities - One Minute More (Gentle James Remix)

Who doesn't like the deep house king Oliver Heldens? One of his latest tracks, called Koala, is really refreshing and is pushing the boundaries of house music. What I really love about the track is the melody you hear right before the first drop. I liked it that much that I've decided to base my entire remix on that melody. All melodies used in this remix are derived of that single melody, including the drop. In this remix I also challenged myself to experiment with the usage of guitars. As you can hear I've also included an electric guitar which inspired me to put in a guitar solo as well. When the track was finished I felt like it was still missing something, so I decided to put an acapella on top of it. 
After a couple of weeks (I took a break from this project) and about 10 cigarettes, this remix was finished. I really hope you like it!

[FREE] Oliver Heldens & Rihanna - Koala Vs. We Found Love (Gentle James Remix)

Even though I find most of Katy Perry’s music disgusting I wanted to remix this song. My goal was to give the song the feeling of ‘just waking up’. When waking up most people prefer to take things slow which was the reason I kept a rather low bpm. I also experimented with a new kind of chill sound which can be heard in the drop. I’m planning on using this sound more often in future. Once I was finished I wasn’t quite sure about the Katy Perry acapella after all. But fuck it, I had to move on, so I put an instrumental online as well. Enjoy the remix!

[FREE] Katy Perry - Wide Awake (Gentle James Remix)

The message of the original track hooked me. Even though I’m not a fan of the original song, the lyrics grabbed my attention. They made me think of a girl from my past who I should have given more attention. After hearing the original I was sure I had to give it a personal twist. I especially focused on creating a melody expressing the pain. The melody was written in a popular minor key which changes to a major key halfway the ‘drop’. This changes the feeling of the song from the bad memories you had about the girl, to the good memories you had with her. I wasn’t making much progression with this remix at first but once I was happy with the melody, the track was done in no time. After a couple of days and about 5 supermarket breaks, this remix was finished. I hope you get the same feeling I get when listening this remix!

[FREE] Bruno Mars - When I Was Your Man (Gentle James Remix)

Lately I’ve been working a lot on developing my own unique sound. This track is the first one I’m putting online of this new style I made. What I love about the original song are its deep lyrics. Describing all the ways/places you banged the girl next door while cheating your girlfriend really lifts this track to another level. One can clearly see that the authors of the original track took their message extremely serious when writing these lyrics. Since I’m a big fan of high level poetry I decided to remix the song (I do want to point out that I have no personal feelings relating this song, I don’t have a hot girl living next door). For this remix I tried to capture some melodies of the original song and give them a tropical twist. One of the challenges I faced while remixing was fitting the vocals on a beat. In order to do so I had to chop the vocals into pieces and then stretch them all individually. Without mastering this project took me 15 hours and 43 minutes in total once I was finished. I hope you like my new style!

Greetings, my name is James and I am a 21-year-old university student. My goal is to be an artist while living the college life as well. The challenge is to combine late parties with waking up early, in order to study and make music. If I can’t make music, I go nuts. You can enjoy these struggles on my social media.

Before this I was producing with some friends who decided to quit once we went to college. But I couldn’t quit. Music was more to me than just a hobby, it allowed me to express my feelings. Showing my emotions was something I truly hated and I always had a difficult time doing so. Putting my feelings in songs allowed me to process regrets and lost loves. One time, after hanging out with an old friend of mine, I promised to visit him again. I never showed up and he passed away. Till this day I am still working on the song which could fit that regret. That’s why my music is very personal to me. I also don’t enjoy sharing it with people I know, because of that. None of my family members and friends know my music is online. Sure, I shared them a song every once and a while but I kept the emotional ones to myself. Uploading these songs was also a huge step for me. 

In order to get my music out on the internet I’m currently actively studying marketing in my spare time. Learning new strategies by reading books is something I love doing. I believe that being a fresh musician nowadays requires marketing knowledge. Right now I’m also thinking of ways to give you the possibility to get involved with my marketing efforts in the near future. But for now, I hope you enjoy the music!
