The KLF - Chill Out

For those who were asking what the mysterious mix that was put on after the DJs stopped playing outside at the Life and Death party in Art Basel, here it is. A mellow trip prepared by Greg from Thugfucker and presented here as a little thank you from all of us at Life and Death. 

It's been an amazing year and we're so very appreciative of all the support we've gotten as we've adventured forwards on this incredible musical trip together. We've got lots of exciting things planned for the year ahead (and beyond!) and we look forward to continuing together on this ride wherever it takes us.

Thanks for being there with us along the way. It really does mean the world to us...

Dntel celebrates his new album The Human Voice with a special selection of unreleased remixes.

From his solo work as Dntel, to his various extracurricular projects - the biggest of which, his collaboration with Ben Gibbard The Postal Service, reformed for live shows last year - one thing binds Jimmy Tamborello's work: beauty.

He's clearly a lover of fluttering melodies and warm synthesiser washes, so it makes perfect sense that he's a huge Krautrock fan - and on FACT mix 463, he gives a first airing to Dntel mixes of acts like Roedelius and Michael Rother, as well as similarly heartstring-tugging music by Penguin Cafe Orchestra and Durutti Column.

Where Dntel's music can sometimes, such as on recent single 'If I Stay A Minute', favour skittish percussion, on FACT mix 463 he usually plumps for leisurely 4x4 kicks, letting the originals tracks' melodies - and his skilled, unshowy chopping of them - take centre stage. It's a real beauty.

In 2013 a duo began to surface on the radar, associations and releases on Atomnation and Kompakt began to reinforce their status. The pair from the Netherlands, Harm Coolen & Merijn Scholte Albers, make up the Weval project which is about to release its debut album for Kompakt. They met in 2010 and describe their relationship and its outcomes as "organic". Their musical backgrounds vary and have led to a clash of ideas and concepts which is prevalent throughout their work. We caught up with the pair and asked them to record a mix.

Shot in Brooklyn at the now-defunct DIY venue Aviv in September 2016, the film takes a cue from Jaar’s semi fictitious network of interlocking radio stations as well as his latest studio album 'Sirens'. 

From its very first enigmatic scene to the unmissable ending, ‘TRANSITION' is an unscripted POV journey into one night in NY at a transitional time in America.

The veteran electronic musician joins Bryan Kasenic in our NYC studio to play through current favorites and new works.

Keith Fullerton Whitman’s (@kfw)body of work is vast. Since the early ’90s, the Brooklyn-based electronic musician has recorded a wealth of albums for labels like Kranky, Editions Mego and PAN; taken to the stage at venues as diverse as the Labyrinth festival and the Columbia University Computer Music Center; and made music from across the spectrum of electronic experimentation. He’s also been a longtime favorite of the Bunker, having performed on some of the party’s more adventurous lineups through the years. Joining Bryan Kasenic on the radio this week, Whitman will devote sets to music he’s loving right now and new music he has in the works.

The Bunker on Red Bull Radio: Keith Fullerton Whitman 12/6/2018

Cultivated Sound are proud to present a new mix from LDY OSC (short for Lady Oscillator) who has released singles and EP's on The Bunker New York Records. This mix is a terrain of visceral, atmospheric and electro-acid beats that leaves you adrift in the dark recesses of your mind. 

From Laredo, Texas, a distinct locale on the border between Mexico and the United States, she grew up listening to industrial music and plunged herself into the local electronic music scene in Monterrey, Mexico. Her passion for all things modular led her to obtain a degree in sound engineering and learn how create personal synthesizers. 

Besides working on her solo EP due out this year and DJ'ing on a global scale, she is a collaborator in "Artefactos de Dolor" with members Todd Sines (.xtrak) and Charles Noel (Archetyp). They have an upcoming release this year on Heli.cal Records.  We think LDY OSC is becoming a prominent force whose sounds and artistic perspectives deserve a platform of visibility.
