Hopeful Now, lyrically is about self realisation and how someone might always get what they want no matter what the journey or outcome. It’s actually parts of two different songs I wrote on piano, one in 2020 and one earlier this year, they seem to work better together than apart. It was recorded between April and July this year at Black Dog except for the trumpet parts and solo which were recorded at Sean’s home studio in Geelong. 
I’m so lucky to have great mates that are amazing musicians willing to give their musical “all” to a song I’ve written. A massive thank you to my mates Sean, Kellee, Mitch and Geoff for making this song even more than I ever hoped. Big love for Lisa and Lila for the ‘lower brass’ section coolness, it was pretty special recording them playing together on one of my songs.

‘You Can’t Lose(Until You Do) was written about my years at gigs in Aussie pubs and clubs watching people dump money into poker(slot) machines. It’s also reflective of the tall poppy syndrome and my introverted awe/disbelief that people can walk around so confident…winners....until they aren’t. Written on acoustic it didn’t find its feet until it had the weight of Geoff Green’s drum groove behind it and Paul Kerin’s guitar hook in the pre and chorus. When we were recording it it reminded us of slightly 90s Triple J Aussie guitar band vibes, think Jebediah. I like synths so there’s some layering happening in the chorus but I’m mostly a bass player so it’s always upfront. I was also chasing a freer bridge with some phased counter melodies. I hope you like it, you can’t lose, until you do.

Geoff's style is a mix of rock, pop and electronica that showcases his ability as a songwriter, producer, and vocalist. Geoff plays all of the instruments on his albums including drum kit, bass, guitars, keyboards and programming and completed all of the production via a laptop and a small portable recording system.
Geoff has also played bass in bands such as The Montgomery Clifts and ARIA award winning Brisbane band George. He currently also works in solo, duo and band formats in the South East Queensland covers circuit and as a high school music teacher.
