Chronicles of Elyria: Shrouded in Time


The air was thick with the scent of damp stone and the faint whisper of forgotten magic. Before them, the ruins of an ancient Elyrian city stretched across the valley, veiled in a soft mist that clung to the towering spires and broken archways like a lingering memory of a bygone era. The light of the afternoon sun filtered through the haze, casting golden hues upon the remnants of a civilization lost to time.

Lyara stepped forward first, her elven senses attuned to the subtle hum that resonated beneath the surface. Each step upon the cracked marble pathways sent a ripple through the silence, as if the ruins themselves stirred at their presence. Beside her, Kaelen adjusted his grip on his staff, his keen gaze sweeping across the city’s skeletal remains. At his side, the human scholar Elara traced her fingers across the engraved patterns on a fallen column, her mind racing with possibilities.

“This place,” Elara murmured, “it wasn’t merely abandoned. It was left behind… deliberately.”

The others exchanged glances. The Order of the Veil had once been rumored to guard knowledge deemed too powerful for mortal hands. Could this city have been their sanctuary? Or their prison?

As they ventured deeper, the mist parted to reveal a central plaza where a grand monument lay in pieces. At its heart, half-buried beneath time and dust, a fractured blade protruded from the earth, its obsidian edge gleaming despite the centuries. The inscription upon the pedestal was worn, yet parts of it remained legible.

“…shall guard the truth until the stars fade.”

Kaelen knelt beside it, brushing away debris. “This isn’t just any relic,” he said, his voice laced with reverence. “This belonged to the keepers.”

Lyara placed a hand on the blade’s surface and closed her eyes. The echoes of something ancient coursed through her, not dark, not ominous—just… vast. As if the stone itself held the weight of countless stories untold.

Then, a soft pulse vibrated through the air. The mist shifted, swirling around them as if acknowledging their presence. Not a warning. A beckoning.

Elara stepped back, eyes wide. “The city isn’t silent,” she whispered. “It’s waiting.”

And in that moment, they understood. The ruins of Elyria were not merely remnants of the past. They were the threshold to something greater—something that had lain dormant, waiting for those willing to listen.
