A collaborative work sparked by georg-i's love of the original and desire to put his mark on it. The original will be set to be released as part of dj_2buttons forthcoming album... who knows when that will be?

After many iterations georg-i and 2button have come up with an edit that, well, it's a 10 min journey through the emotions of heartbreak and blah blah. Just give it a listen!

dj_2button - Heart Keeps On (georg-i's Endlessly Searching Mix)

CCL launches their subglow label with Rebuild, an EP from Bristol club provocateur @georg-i, featuring remixes from Metrist and the elusive B. McQueen.

After years of lighting up the dance floor at subglow and serving as a cornerstone in club sets, Rebuild is finally getting an official release to the public. georg-i’s previous releases on Perko’s FELT and aya & BFTT’s YCO imprints have established him as an incendiary club constructor probing the fringes of contemporary dance music. The release will be accompanied by poetry from subglow co-conspirator and artist Nadia Marcus, co-founder of Berlin experimental publishing platform TABLOID Press.

Informed by the restlessness of living in an apocalyptic present and the desire to rebuild the broken systems surrounding us, Rebuild is influenced by math rock's feverish and cataclysmic energy, eschewing conventional club BPMs in favour of dizzying tempo trickery and polymetric wizardry. “Torn In Two” gets off to a slow, chugging start, with raucous synths riffing over emphatic drums, but soon swirls into a juddering, pointillistic frenzy. “Bridging The Gap” is a cathartic shout, an acidic crescendo whose triplet meter offers tempo-transitioning opportunities for adventurous DJs who don’t mind a bit of maths. “Communication” gallops along cathartically through ricocheting synths and drums, unfolding into a thrilling breakdown. On remix duties, B. McQueen re-imagines “Torn In Two” as a sultry, dubbed-out roller, charting groove across a heady plain, while Metrist’s ambitious rework of “Communication” amps up the tension and primes it for a peak-time dancefloor sometime in the next millennium.

Following releases from Lurka and Keplrr, GRACE has something more introspective in store. The label's fourth outing is a tasty collaboration between Bristol's @georg-i and Lisbon-based lyricist @olderbrotherolderbrother. Their 'Warm Skin' EP is a journey through slick, hi-tek bass and trip-hop injected with gritty vocal poetry.

Both artists are hitting their stride. Since 2021, georg-i has gone from strength to strength, his razor-sharp slappers appearing on YCO, FELT, and more recently, as the inaugural release on CCL's Subglow. Meanwhile, Older Brother's otherworldly vocals have featured on Timedance, Metrist's SOSOSO, and now a full release with the iconic imprint Numbers. 

On this EP, a soundworld emerges that recalls the dark intimacy of Massive Attack's Mezzanine and the beat science of Samurai Music. These two artists' combined talent makes for beautiful, moody listening - a third space between wonder and cynicism.

Its first single 'Foundations' is a cool-headed club weapon, weaving between Older Brother's night-bus lyrics and slick drumscience from georg-i — halftime at its most minimal, potent, and sultry. Don't sleep.

every now and then a producer enters the world wide chat and unlocks a new pathway, helping you rethink the way certain things(music) are meant to be. bristol-based georg-i is one of those artists. making his debut on yco in 2021 with the epic ‘yco002’ featuring the much-loved ‘body static’, georg-i made his mark from the get go. an artist in the truest sense of the word, georg-i’s music is grand in sound, often powerful club tools that are both wonky and dynamic and so unique in that you can spot one of his tracks coming into a mix or set from a mile away. somewhat earwormy, like ‘stasis’, which felt like it became every djs favourite track but blew you away every time no matter how many times you heard it. then there’s the debut release on ccl’s subglow imprint, ‘rebuild’, that was so deliciously wormholey, i’m not sure there’s anyone else making oddball club tracks like georg-i right now that brings together so many of his influences from punk to the industrial environments he grew up in. last month, georg-i released a collaborative release with lisbon-based lyricist older brother for katiusha’s grace imprint, channeling a slightly different side of his soundscape as he delves into hi-tek bass and trip-hop, injected with gritty vocal poetry. ‘foundations’ sounds like a continuation of ‘torn in two’ from the subglow ep whilst the ep as a whole draws influences from massive attack and samurai music.

Track 4 'To Be A Man' presents meditations on masculinity through Older Brother's rallying lyrics. Underneath, georg-i's infectious breakbeats keep things funky.
