Dillinja joins the legends series with two previously unreleased gems from the mid and late 90s. Very different in style, but both unmistakably crafted by one of the genres true bass scientists.

'Selassie I Sound' is from 94/95 and is one of those tracks that jungle detectives have been after for years! Cropping up in many live set recordings from that era - we're really excited to have dusted off the DAT for this one and to be able to present it to you as part of this series. 

'Valve Sound VIP' as a special DJ edit of the huge track taken from Dillinja's 2001 album Cybertron on FFFR. Most likely to have been recorded sometime in 1999 this alternate mix of a classic packs a punch and gives a fresh twist on a well loved anthem. 

As part of the legendary Valve Soundsystem alongside Lemon D, Dillinja is responsible for some of the genres most seminal moments on labels like V, Philly Blunt, Metalheadz and his own Valve imprint. On V alone tracks like 'Unexplored Terrain' 'Chapter 19' & 'Grimey' have secured his place in the D&B hall of fame and mean the status of 'Legend' is richly deserved.

After the success of Stivs & Katch Pyro’s dance floor ripper ‘Yuh No Badman’ Born On Road return with another vocal driven, amen-tastic stomper just in time for festival season. While Ed West may be a new name for the Born On Road catalogue, he is by no means a name to be reckoned with. As well as his success as the funky drummer in the well established 9 piece reggae band ’The Drop’ he is also a master of production spanning across multiple genres including reggae, jungle, hip hop, soul, grime & Dancehall.

For this single Ed teams up with the Reggae Shack and Urban Nerds genius that is Daddy Nature (AKA Rompa), who has been making waves recently collaborating with Chris Lorenzo, Adam Prescott and one of Born On Road’s founders Aries.

The duo team up with vocalist Bahia to unleash their long awaited ‘Morgans Rain’. The track kicks off with an air of tension before the sound of chopped up amens begin to build in the background along with some great vocal harmonies before dropping seamlessly into a nice 140bpm jungle roller. Bubbling with the sound of the bass growing until the ever favourite sound of the Dead Dred inspired warp bass kicks in with a half time drum track and more splashes of the airy vocal. While the vocal is a strong line in this track it is by no means the driving force. The ever changing drum beat and bubbling bass line keep this as fresh as ever and is some great ammunition for any dance floor!

As if that wasn’t enough the guys at HQ have also commissioned remixes from Jungle veteran and Dread Recordings finest Bladerunner as well as a great summer reggae bubbler from label favourite Max Powa!

It’s 2018 and judging by the surge of interest worldwide, it could also be the year of Jungle music. Over in Bristol at Born On Road headquarters the final touches have been put to the long awaited biopic LP from Aries entitled Jungle Style. For an artist who’s spent 20+ years on the road, released 100+ tracks, collaborated with every soundman and his dog and pushed the Jungle sound to it’s absolute limits, this album is something of a lifelong ambition - it’s the summing up of his journey.

If somehow you don’t know Aries and the Jungle scene, he honed his self-taught skills whilst living in Birmingham, London and Bristol. His first major release was Herb Smoke in 2006 which is sat comfortably on 3,000,000 Youtube views at time of press - something of an anomaly for Jungle; he’s a key figure in his collective’s - Chopstick Dubplate, Born On Road and Roots Recordings; he holds the 2016 We Love Jungle Award for Best DJ; he’s seen releases on prestigious Jungle labels Congo Natty, Dread and V Recordings; he DJs around the world so much that he has a tune called Worldwide Traveller with Top Cat and Mr Williamz celebrating their humble attitude for the continued use of ropey budget airline RyanAir. His career has been one of continued hard work and dedication to the sound which has paid off in respect from his peers and he now also commands a legion of dedicated followers that show support at his shows and through collecting the music he makes.

His LP Jungle Style travels across the spectrum of the Aries sound and - true to form - features many of his nearest and dearest friends. From one angle it's a who’s who of the A-list Jungle scene that all wanted to come and pay homage to the Aries legacy by being part of the project, and from the other side it was most definitely directed by Aries himself for it’s signature sound. The album was written, recorded and produced across 8 studios in Birmingham, Slovenia, Paris, London and Jamaica then finished off in Bristol, and that isn’t including where some tracks were part-produced with friends from other far corners of the world. It’s difficult to pick out the highlights as the diversity really does shine through which means there is something for everyone so long as you like it rough, tough and dangerous!
