Terrible Things (Cover)

This song is much different than anything I've ever written or recorded in the past. Jazz style chords lie under very real and personal lyrics about the darkness and struggles I faced coping with my father's death in late 2007. I've distracted myself for too many years writing superficial songs about girls, unable to finally get my true feelings off of my chest. Though I started writing this song nearly two years ago, I've finally built up the courage to record and post it, regardless of being self-conscious about the content and my attempt at rapping.

It's typical me fallin' down to me knees
Crawlin' the ground searching for somethin'

They all say I've always been the type to scrape
from the bottom of the barrel
But I'm used to this perilous life
Sometimes I think I'm addicted to destruction
My head's in the clouds, my heart's underground
my soul is battling corruption
But I'll move on
and I'll grow strong

I take it just one day at a time
There's always stairs left to climb
Livin paycheck to paycheck
ain't got no way to pay rent
At this time every night I find myself down on the pavement
I'm strummin' this guitar but I'm seeing no payment

At these time something in me says that I should disagree
so I keep up with my writing hoping someday I can be
an artist you respect

I don't mind workin' 9 to 5 'til I write the song that'll make me shine
