I am thrilled and honored to share a new guest mix for the Sunset Lovers show from the boss of one of my favorite labels Tici Taci, a veteran producer, DJ, and all-around lovely man from London UK, Duncan Gray.

With nearly three decades of production experience behind him, his first vinyl label was started in 1997 (Scatolological), he is best known these days for establishing the Tici Taci label with help from the late great Andrew Weatherall. Tici Taci has more than 100 releases and celebrated its 10th year as a label in 2023 with a lot of special releases.

This label consistently releases superb leftfield dance music- chuggy, slinky, dubby, wonky floor-filling dance music. Uz Pa Gaz's Tiranan Balearica Omo Can was featured here in April and various tici taci artists, including Duncan himself, Rude Audio and Dan Wainwright, Boy Division, The Long Champs, Jack Butters, Mystic Thug, Mr BC and Fjordfunk have graced these pages in the past.

Tici Taci - bringing you electric funk rekkids at tempos below 120 bpm. No pre-packed freeze-dried loops, all tracks have live instruments well to the fore, from funky wah-wah guitars and deep chunky bass to temperamental analog synthesizers and live percussion.

Over the years Duncan has released tracks that have proved widely popular with DJs ranging from The Guv himself through to mainstream crowdpleasers like Boy George. As one half of the seminal early 2000's electro band Sons of Slough Duncan played many live shows as well as DJing around Europe and the US, and released records on a wide variety of labels including Skint. In recent times he's played as far abroad as Australia and has remixed the likes of Primal Scream, David Holmes, Red Snapper, Yothu Yindi, and Andrew Weatherall. He also played guitar on several remixes by Andrew Weatherall and regularly contributes guitar and bass parts to a host of producers worldwide.

The past decade has seen Duncan champion a sludgy, slow-mo take on dance music that favors chugging bass guitars and psychedelic sound palettes over software VSTs and drag-and-drop samples.

In recent times he has partnered with Sean Johnston as "Hardway Brothers meet Monkton Uptown": a mostly dub-based remix project which has also led to the pair DJing together.

Last year (2023) Duncan and Ian Weatherall resurrected the Sons of Slough for the 10th Convenanza festival in Carcassonne in honor of Ian's late brother, and will be playing more Live shows in 2024.

Echoflex is a new studio and DJ collaboration between Al MacKenzie (Field of Dreams / D:Ream / Retroforward) and Duncan Gray (tici taci / Sons of Slough).

Having remixed each other over the last few years, they finally had the chance to play B2B as a warm up for ALFOS in Birmingham last year - and enjoyed it so much they decided it might be fun to do something on a regular basis.

They will be starting a regular slot at The Brunswick Cellars in Glasgow on Friday March 29th with a 3 deck back to back mix - playing deep house and pitched down techno soaked in glorious FX.

To celebrate this event Echoflex anybody attending the night will be given a free download code for the first Echoflex EP, ahead of its release in April 2024.

Al and Dunc have done a 2 hour mix together to give you an idea of what you might expect - expect the unexpected.

WotD - Back to the Breaks is the 1st recorded Breaks mix since 06 other than a retrospective mix done for Waveform Transmitter several years back. 
During the 00's Jonny Mac (WotD) toured the world playing Nu School Breaks in the best clubs and festivals around as well as promoting Breaks nights across 3 UK cities.
After playing on Pikes Terrace in July 23 on A B2B with David Phillips he and David ventured into the forgotten Breaks territory and its taken a few months since then to find enough good new Breaks to record a mix , But here we have it, its taken almost 20 years, Enjoy

Warriors Of The Dystotheque - Back to the Breaks

Al needs no introduction as one of the most familiar faces in the underground dance scene for over 30 years.

He started out dj'ing at various warehouse parties around London in the late eighties, his big break came after running several successful parties at the notorious Brain Club in 1990. He then moved on to be resident at the legendary Love Ranch In Leicester Square. He was also one of Danny Rampling's resident djs at his Pure night at the Milk Bar in London.

During this time he formed a musical partnership with Peter Cunnah and D:ream was born. They captured the number one spot in the U.S. and U.K. dance charts in mid-1992 with their first single, 'U R The Best Thing'. The follow up single, 'Things can Only Get Better' hit No.1 in the UK and several charts worldwide in 1994 when re-released. Their first album, 'D:ream On Vol 1', went platinum in the UK. D:ream's latest EP, Meet Me at Midnight, was released in May and a new album is due for release later this year.

He went on to set up the very successful Retroforward in the mid-90's, bringing some of the world's finest underground djs to Birmingham, which still runs at the Hare & Hounds and still sells out every time. His Field Of Dreams project with Chris Kentish has been met with global recognition and their massive remix of Les Crocodiles 'La Nuit Des Tropiques' has become an ALFOS staple. Further EP's have been met with critical acclaim and sold out within weeks. 

Al has dj'd at some of the finest clubs all over the world, including Back To Basics, Miss Moneypenny's, Cream, Up Yer Ronson, Clockwork Orange, Gatecrasher, Love To Be and Rise and we are absolutely delighted to welcome him as the latest addition to our roster of guest mixers.

To me and many of my peers, "acid house" was not just about 303s and purple ohms, it was a feeling - a vibe that permeated through a mix of musical genres, house, techno, italo and cosmic disco, EBM, balearic, whatever.  I hope this collection of more modern tunes (plus a few contemporary classics) captures some of that vibe.

Music obssesed since 1976. Buying and collecting albums as a 12 year old. His earliest influences in the late '70s and early '80s were Tangerine Dream, Aphrodite’s Child, The Who, Pink Floyd. George started his DJ career aged 14.His eclectic mixes contain balearic, disco, house, ambient, jazz and rock. He plays what he feels and he loves. His sets nowadays are what most would describe as Balearic/Eclectic but with a healthy dose of electronic throb. Expect chuggers, slipped disco and wonky edits usually between 80-120 bpm depending on the time he plays.
George is a Budapest based curator of the Quality Music Lovers Society group on Facebook. He has been a contributor to the ever reliable Balearic Social radio show on Purple Radio, plays at the Outlaws Yacht Club in Leeds, was a guest DJ of the Balearic Assassins Of Love team in Ibiza and a contributor to the Network show on Box Frequency, Balearic Ultras, Eclectics.
He hosted his own monthly show ’The Sound Of The Quality Music Lovers’ Society ’ on Boxfrequency  radio where he played  choice music, accompanied by famous guest DJ's. The show has moved to GraffPUNKS Network radio. It is broadcasted  every last Tuesday of the month.  
Beside his own radio show he provides guest mixes for other radio shows all around the Globe. 
George has been played  at ALFRESCO festival int he UK, at DivadelnÍ Flora festival in Czech Republic, has been  played b2b gigs with John Paynter (A Space Age Freak Out) at The Golden Lion Todmorden and Love & Death club Belfast, he was a guest DJ of the Balearic Assassins Of Love team in San Antonio Ibiza. He regurarly plays with his friend DJ Papa Aron at his winery on the ’Very Sundays’ events. He started Danube Sunset events this summer at Kabin in Budapest.
