Orchestral piece written in 1991, and scored for clarinet, flute, French horn, oboe, percussion, piano, strings, trombone and tuba.


Fanfaronade for Europe

The first piece composed by George Newson to incorporate electronic and tape manipulated sounds, recorded at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop with the assistance of Delia Derbyshire in 1966. It was made for the producer Douglas Cleverdon and the radio drama, The Man Who Collected Sounds.

Palinode l was written for the Strathearn Music Society by George Newson, to mark the purchase of the Bosendorfer piano in 1974. The piece is due to be played again at a Society concert in May 2016.

Tape composition from 1967 by George Newson, created while on a fellowship to study electronic music techniques in the USA. It was recorded at the University of Illinois, using various wildlife sounds of birds, animals and insects, as well as some sounds of machinery and furnaces recorded at the Royal Mint in London. 
It was played at the first Queen Elizabeth Hall concert of Electronic Music by British Composers on 15th January 1968.

Fishermen at Ballyshannon
Netted an infant last night
Along with the salmon.
An illegitimate spawning,

A small one thrown back
To the waters. But I'm sure
As she stood in the shallows

Were dead as the gravel,
He was a minnow with hooks
Tearing her open.

She waded in under

Limbo

A contemporary composer and photographer studying at the Royal Academy of Music, Newson has gone on to compose in a wide range of forms throughout his distinguished career, including orchestral, choral, opera, string quartets and electronic music.
