Learning the Libraries is a podcast series designed to introduce our community to the Smathers Libraries' services, spaces and expert employees who move the Gator Nation forward. 

In this episode, we learn about the communications department-- who they are and what they do. From social media campaigns to marketing strategies, all things communications can be found in this corner of the Libraries. 
 
The University of Florida Libraries form the largest academic information resource system in Florida and include seven libraries.

The Smathers Libraries collaborate with UF faculty, students and staff, as well as the University’s collaborators and constituents, to facilitate knowledge creation that contributes to UF’s standing as a preeminent public research university. 

The Libraries encourage creativity and inquiry necessary to support the University’s global ambitions and play an important role in attracting and retaining top students, faculty and staff.

Guests: 

Alex Avelino has served as the Director of Marketing & Communications for the Smathers Libraries since April 2023. Previously, she worked in student affairs for the UF College of Veterinary Medicine and as a preschool teacher at Baby Gator Child Development and Research Centers. Alex is a proud double Gator and is a Gainesville fanatic.

Rae Riiska has been the Communications Assistant for the Smathers Libraries since August 2023. She recently graduated from the College of Journalism at the University of Florida. Rae has a background in photojournalism and freelances outside of the libraries.
