I wrote this song at a tough time. Both my wife and newborn daughter were having extended stays in the hospital. A friend died suddenly. I felt shell-shocked. I thought about how random life seems. As hard as you try or pray you can't stop death. Just be grateful that you're here now. Show people that you care about them.

I was living with my friend Dustin in an apartment. I got up a 1 mic recording setup in my closet. After watching Jackie Brown for the first time and being struck by the music in it, I wanted to write something that good. I wanted to write the next SO HAPPY TOGETHER by THE TURTLES. So that afternoon I wrote what I thought would play well in that movie.
