Berlin based DJ Philipp Schultheis likes to eat and is an enthusiastic selector, collector and dancer.
 
Former Frankfurt resident Philipp Schultheis has become a Berlin regular with lightning speed by playing well-chosen house and disco tracks. Prerequisited at Marlon Hoffstadt's phone-free Savour The Moment series, he is already notorious for endless closing sets. Even if he's not into producing (yet), there is much output to get familiar with his sound. 

Ransom Note called him a disc jockey on the rise who has moulded a collection of tracks in a precise and intricate manner with imaginative twists and turns, while his mix for Crack Magazine is blending glittering technicolour cuts into a buoyant excursion primed for the dance. ZeeZout describes his sound as deep space astrofunk and synthesizer induced orgasms courtesy, weaved together into an exuberant mix jam-packed with synths, vocoders, and 808’s. For Bordello A Parigi as well as Sinchi Collective, he contributed two each carefully selected, four-hour Italo Only sets, containing guilty pleasures and hidden treasures as well as contemporary Italo biggies. 

Apropos Guilty Pleasures, he started the eponymous series of events at renowned Paloma Bar in 2019 with the likes of long-term Robert Johnson resident Thomas Hammann, Permanent Vacation label honcho Benjamin Fröhlich and italo-driven uprising star Tjade so far.

Aimed at providing a different insight into dance music the label Special place provides both acoustic and electronic sounds that are not sonically linked to a specific era, but all carry a shamanic or esoteric hinge. This EP is just that with the three amazing artists Mushrooms Project, Longhair and Eric Duncan all bringing their own take to this leftfield slomo disco to house vibe. It’s an honor to have them on board!

You gotta love Eric Duncan. Such a laidback, fun and easy going chap! After having turned NY upside down he currently resides in Bali when he's not touring amidst the pandemic. He actually remixed this track whilst in Brazil (how does he do that?). He probably has the vastest collection of selfies with DJ Harvey if this means anything. Berlin based Longhair has a string of releases on labels such as Bordello A Parrigi, Permanent Vacation or Love On the Rocks. He actually does sport long hair and probably has a third ear for turning music into untameable beat dance fury. And what about our hosts Mushrooms Project? Well they paved a solid catalogue with their characteristic shamanic house music releases, go check out for yourself!

One half of Ambideckstrous - a DJ duo who pre-pandemic have DJ’ed in and around Leith for nine years, their nights are a very mixed bag of music from their collections.

Forthcoming with another release is one of Fantastic Voyage’s founding members, Danny Goliger. In early 2021 the music producer, audio engineer, and instrumentalist will present his debut album, “Meaningful Pursuits” on the label. The forthcoming IDM full-length consists of 11 tracks and represents his personal growth as an artist and individual.

Goliger has captured some personal trauma and placed it into melodies, chords, and synths. These melancholy sounds are reflective of his healing from these wounds. When speaking about recording the album at that time in his life, Danny describes feeling like a broken computer simulation – glitchy and fragmented, which comes full circle as you listen to the record. His long-time musical collaborator, Benny Bridges, created generative visualizers for each track that also help convey this notion.

Deeply passionate about electronic music hardware, Goliger recorded this album at his studio in Echo Park using his analog synths, drum machines, and hardware samplers. Featuring a heady blend of experimental IDM/Electronica, the album pays homage to his musical heroes including Aphex Twin, Autechre, Floating Points, Skee Mask and Proem to name a few. His penchant for audio engineering is on display, with this glitchy record showcasing a technical precision that blends seamlessly with his strong musical compositions.

Although this is the first solo LP for the Los Angeles producer, Danny is a prolific collaborator, producing and engineering on many diverse projects that span numerous genres. As a seasoned musician with many years under his belt, he can also be seen playing keys and drums in the Fantastic Voyage band and music-directing for Mija’s live shows.

Staying true to his roots, the occasional sprinkle of cheeky samples and freaky synths won’t be missed!

Renegade Radio Camp - SPIRA - Mix 19-04-2021

We are sharing today a new other people mix by journalist, community organizer and musician Spirodon from Free City Radio in Montreal. 

His words on the mix: This is a mix of local artists living and working in Tiohtià:ke / Montréal. It highlights artists that I have gotten the chance to work with directly around the intersections of art and social activism on a variety of fronts. All these artists have contributed in various ways to efforts to sustain and build a healthy, inclusive and transformative network for the arts in the city, while also working to explore the ways that artists can directly contribute to concrete struggles for change. Particularly I got the chance to work with these artists around the building of the Artists Against Apartheid concert series in solidarity with the BDS Movement to support Palestinian freedom. Others within this mix I have worked on artistic initiatives to support struggles for migrant justice and for the rights of undocumented people locally, particularly around the Immigrant Workers Centre. Also I selected artists who have been vocal against systemic racism and police killings for years, linked to community work over generations to build community power. Finally, I just want to say that all of these tracks are beautiful! Thanks for listening.
